About Me

Hey guys! Welcome to Rachel & Toffler's joint MySapce page! We are two young americans living in the ever-changing city of Shanghai...If you haven't been here, it's an awesome place and you should defititely visit. Toffler's been living in Shanghai going on 2 years. Rachel's Shanghai adventure has just begun with 3 months under her belt so far. We've been working for a startup in China called italki.com (read below for a full blurb on the site) that basically just helps people connect online through the common goal of learning a foreign language. This is something that has been in our lives since we were kids. with Toffler learning spanish since age 10, and Rachel studying french since 5 - language learning is something we can't imagine our lives without. Our experiences abroad have definitely been an adventure so far, and we've started this profile to be able to share it with our friends! Also we want to make a platform to share tips on learning foreign languages through italki, and meet people who are doing similar things! Here's some info about italki:italki.com is a free language learning website where you can find everything you need to learn a language online. italki is applying Web 2.0 concepts, such as social networking, user-generated content, and crowdsourcing, to language learning. italki is now home to a global community of language learners representing over 90 langauges worldwide. italki was one of the first social networks focused on learning foreign languages online and continues to be an innovator in this space with features such as multimedia chat, socially-driven questions and answers, open-source file sharing, and collaborative knowledge-based wikis. italki believes that being able to communicate in a foreign language is increasingly a critical skill, and that the internet is radically changing how a language can be learned. We believe globalization is making language learning a necessity, and technology is making it a possibility. With italki, anyone, anywhere in the world with an internet connection can learn a language for free.a
