Now most know Lyric Jones from her sultry melodies, or her head bobbing rap lyrics. Some may even know her as the late night college DJ personality or the next CNN journalist. Well some fail to know that this well-rounded female phenomenon is a professional drummer. Currently "swangin" for the University of Georgia jazz band under Steve Dancz, Jones has had the privilege to travel to Beijing, China last April. Playing set came natural to Lyric after first trying piano, saxaphone and bass. "I just picked up the sticks and started playing...then....it was history."
Jones starting playing drums in the church like most drummers after watching the constant rotation of Berklee musicians year after year. Being mentored by countless talents such as John Blackwell, Louis Cato, Jason Carpenter, Les Cleveland, Dana Hawkins and Lyndon Rochelle, Jones was always surrounded by inspiration, and good advice. Today praying drums still shares Lyric's heart with singing/songwriting. Currently Lyric Jones plays for Cornerstone Church in Athens, Georgia and still holds it down in the UGA Jazz Band! ;)
