Rap music is a powerful art form. In an era where rap music sounds more like the WWF on wax. The most common themes in a lot of the music are similar to elaborate story lines with the artists doing nothing more than building a gimmick and playing a role. With that being said it is prevalent element of rap is clearly missing. Reality.
Brooklyn based rapper Lynx is clearly different. Lynx was simply born to be different. Lynx is Chinese Jamaican so his physical appearance immediately sets him apart from his other hip-hop peers. In addition to his unique physical appearance his rearing well as his evolution as an artist and a man also sets him apart.
Lynx grew up where parental neglect wasn?t a news item instead it was an everyday reality. In order to deal with the regular struggles of growing up with the added pressure of neglect from his parents, Lynx used rap music as a form of refuge. Lynx?s early musical influences included Bob Marley, Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z.
In 1997 at the age of 14, Lynx along with a pair of friends Cashflow and Touch formed the group 3 Kings. The group worked together for two years until personal and creative differences brought about the group?s demise.
Lynx refused to let the fall out with 3 Kings group members slow him down. In 2000, he aligned himself with fellow aspiring rapper Waffle. The dynamic duo formed the group "Blood & Money".
In 2002 Lynx was dealt another serious blow when Waffle was incarcerated. Due to constant neglect Lynx always found a way to provide for himself. Lynx built a relationship with the streets hustling. As Lynx grew older his activities and habits alienated himself from his family. The confrontational relationship with his family grew to a zenith and Lynx found himself in a common place... alone.
In 2004 Lynx truly experienced the feeling of being sequestered and having to struggle. Lynx was homeless. His living quarters were the New York buses and trains and concrete. There were times when Lynx even slept standing up. On August 19th, 2004 Lynx was dealt another blow when he learned his father was murdered.
In 2005 Lynx renewed his passion for rap music. Lynx began to mix commercial appeal with strong Black Nationalist themes and the result was is Black Panther Hybrid Hip-hop.
Lynx is supported by his Dollar and a Dream Entertainment group, and he is poised to put his own mark of calligraphy on the rap game. Lynx plans to do what he has done his whole life set himself apart from the crowd.
Lynx wants D&D to be more than a record label he wants D&D to be a strong part of the community and a catalyst for change. It is a common adage that the revolution will not be televised. It is absolutely true it will be in your CD player and Lynx will be at the helm.
