String Theory is a Honolulu-based jazz trio founded in 2008, featuring Istvan Szapudi, on guitar, Robert Fazzari, on drums, and Vi King, on bass.
String Theory is now officially on sabbatical, as one of us (Istvan) will spend some time in Europe. However, we will keep posting some mixes from our previous sessions.
Our goal is to challenge conventional ideas about how jazz "should be" played. We try push ourselves right up to the edge, but without falling over. We are firmly rooted in the jazz tradition and idioms, but not bound by any rules except what feels and sounds good. Most of all, we want to have fun and grow as musicians. For String Theory, it's all about spontaneously creating new music.
As time goes on, we will put on some live scratch recordings, to document our development. "Lonely Woman" is by Horace Silver and "Jean-Pierre" by Miles is our first ever rendition but we do like the vibe. Soul Cowboy" is by Pat Metheny and "All Blues" is by Miles. We might improve these rough mixes later...please check us every once in a while.
