About Me

{THE FOLLOWING BIO IS BASED ON TRUE EVENTS. NAMES, LOCATIONS AND FACTS HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO PROTECT THE INNOCENT}..........Hailing from such far corners of the earth as Bombay, India; Canberra, Australia; St. Petersburg Russia; Puerto Rico; Antananarivo, Madagascar; and Cancun, Mexico.... this world famous ensemble has finally relocated and settled down to record their 14th album in the nations capital. How did this ensemble form and where did they meet?Strangely enough, over two thirds of the band made their fortunes when Starbucks stocks were cheap and no one could believe that this small corporation would be what it is today.Always on top of latest trends in business, fashion and the music industry, the original members of Sancocho happened to find themselves at the First International Starbucks Convention in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, held at the famous five-star resort: Barceló La Jolla de Mismaloya. It happened the third night of the conference, when investors, pumped at their new prospects, gathered by the pool side for drinks and to hear a local Salsa band. After the second set, the band members were kind enough to share the stage with talented members of their audience. That was how Johnny Valencia (drums) got to hear the amazing Dave Guzman on bass, Jesus Gonzales on percussion, and the stunning Opal Rose on vocals. It was love "at first listen", and overwhelmed by the spontaneous chemistry of this combination of talent, Johnny first came up with the idea for Sancocho.Of course, as you know, that was over 12 years ago!!!What has Sancocho been doing since then? Recording, performing, and touring. With their largest fan base out of Rio de Janeiro, Sancocho grew in fame and fortune playing on such luxury cruise liners as the MSC SINFONIA (an Italian luxury liner) where they acquired the contacts to do their European tour just before September 11th.Eugene Iosilevich, fresh out of his first tour with the 3rd Infantry Division Band, joined the group after attending their performance at a small salsa club in Heidelberg, Germany."Salsa is the universal language," Eugene explains. " Now, after seeing how division, ignorance and lack of respect for the cultures of others has thrown our whole world into militant turmoil, I realize Salsa is the only way to save civilization today. When we play the music and dance to the rhythms we become one with the only thing that's really important: being human - and doing this, you see, with a passion!!!"Finally, it was the sax player, Mr. Brian Falkowski (one of America's great fusion artists) who implored the band to relocate to Washington D.C. "D.C. is at the center of the world. It is the heart, brain and soul of the world's melting pot. If you want to influence people with the uniting message of Salsa music, you must come here - the place where so many crucial decisions are being made!"With the small fortunes made off Starbucks stocks and the sales of the first thirteen albums, Sancocho had no problem deciding on the move. The only question was WHEN !!!!Spring of 2008. Pre-election year. When the first hints of summer stir the blood of America's young women and men. A time to move, a time to change, a time... to dance!!!Sancocho debuts at Zaaza's in Sterling, VA, May 9th, 2008.www.zaazasterling.com
