Jimmy Cool, born Jimmy Skoog, is the 22 year old artist from Norrtälje, Sweden, who has been writing songs since 1999 and who, despite his young age, has made his name known through self-financed mixtape releases, his energy-packed live shows and, most of all, through spreading his music on the internet. He's got thousands of listeners on his Myspace page and has already worked with artists and producers from a variety of countries, such as the USA, England, France, Germany, Norway, Denmark and Australia.
Even though Jimmy has said himself that he started writing his own songs because he wanted to be like Gene Simmons from Kiss, his musical journey started in the form of traditional, sample-based hip-hop, inspired by the likes of Run DMC, Nas and Jay-Z. But as time went on and he grew as an artist, Jimmy wanted to incorporate more of his earlier sources of inspiration into his song-writing. So he took all of his musical influences, everyone from Kiss, Red Hot Chili Peppers, James Brown and the Bar-Kays to Michael Jackson, Bobby Brown and Phil Collins - put them all together and created his own, unique kind of hip-hop, proving that you don't have to limit yourself to just "your" genre.
In September 2007 he was approached by Anders Wicander, owner and founder of Swedish record label Stonerude Records, who was intrigued by the unique sound and wanted to work with Jimmy. The two of them sat down and started writing songs together and Anders ultimately signed Jimmy to Stonerude Records.
Jimmy Cool is currently in the studio finishing up the recording of his debut album "Curbside Kid", slated for release during the third quarter of 2009. The album features guest appearances by Promoe of Looptroop Rockers, Jonathan Ojeda and Peter Krafft of Royal Modesty. The album is produced to its entirety by Jonathan Ojeda.
He is also recording tracks with several producers for his upcoming mixtape "All The Girls Love Jimmy Cool", which will be released for free download in June 2009.
