A shaman is a medicine man or woman. Shaman are spiritual beings with the ability to heal, work with energies and 'see' visions. The essential characteristics of shaman are mastery of energy and fire as a medium of transformation. Shamanism is a range of traditional beliefs and practices that involve the ability to diagnose, cure, and sometimes cause human suffering by traversing the axis mundi and forming a special relationship with, or gaining control over, spirits. Shamans have been credited with the ability to control the weather, divination, the interpretation of dreams, astral projection, and traveling to upper and lower worlds. Shamanistic traditions have existed throughout the world since prehistoric times. Shamanism is based on the premise that the visible world is pervaded by invisible forces or spirits that affect the lives of the living. In contrast to animism and animatism, which any and usually all members of a society practice, shamanism requires specialized knowledge or abilities. Shamans are not, however, organized into full-time ritual or spiritual associations, as are priests.

WE, THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF THIRTEEN INDIGENOUS GRANDMOTHERS, represent a global alliance of prayer, education and healing for our Mother Earth, all Her inhabitants, all the children, and for the next seven generations to come. We are deeply concerned with the unprecedented destruction of our Mother Earth and the destruction of indigenous ways of life. We believe the teachings of our ancestors will light our way through an uncertain future. We look to further our vision through the realization of projects that protect our diverse cultures: lands, medicines, language and ceremonial ways of prayer and through projects that educate and nurture our children.
This garden universe
Vibrates complete.
Some get a sound so sweet.
Vibrations reach on up to
Become light
Then through gamma and out of sight
Between the eyes and ears lay
The sounds of color and light
And to hear the summer; to hear the sun
What a beautiful experience to behold.
The energy is all around
If we could but perceive
To know ultra violet, infra red and x-rays.
Beauty to find in so many ways.
Our life is to behold

2 Wolfs legend..
A Grand father said to his grandson, who came to him with anger at a friend who had done him an injustice.."Let me tell you a story"...I too at times have felt a great hate for those who have taken so much, with no sorrow for what they have done.. But..Hate wears you down..and does not hurt your enemy..It is like taking poison and wishing your enemy would die..I have struggled with those feelings many times.. It is as if there are 2 wolves inside of me..One is good..and does no harm, He lives in harmony with all around him, and does not take offense when no offense was intended..He will only fight when it is right to do so..and in the right way! The other Wolf..AH! He is one that is full of anger..The smallest thing will set him into a fit of rage..He fights everyone, all of the time, for no reason in particular..He cannot think because his anger and hate are so great! It is hopeless anger, for his anger will change NOTHING! Sometimes, it is hard to live with these 2 wolves..in me, Both of them try to dominate my Spirit! The boy looked intently into his Grandfather's eyes and asked "Which one wins, Grandfather?" The Grandfather smiled and quietly said "The one I feed.."
