When German rock shooting stars Aloha From Hell lifted off to conquer the charts, it happened so fast that it must have nearly blown up all “Fasten your seat belts“ signs on board. With their super-catchy radio rock track „Don‘t Gimme That“, which was launched as first single, Vivi, Moo, Andi, Feli and Max settled down easily in the German Airplay-Charts, got played in heaviest rotation at German music TV-channel VIVA and finally made it straight into the official sales Top 30. This fast-paced start did not only pull a huge amount of new fans in Germany, the AFH hype has reached an international level. Half a million music fans from all over the word visited the band‘s MySpace-Site. More than 1,5 million played the Aloha From Hell debut video on YouTube - within only three months. But the five group members from Aschaffenburg, who won last year‘s “BRAVO Brandnewcomer Contest“ haven‘t shot their wad with the smash hit “Don‘t Gimme That“. The almost alarmingly perfect follow-up single “Walk Away“ makes that clear. The goose-bumps inducing ballad, which offers all it takes to fill the largest stadiums, was produced by Alex Wende and René Rennefeld who have proven their chart-capability with their work for many other German bands like Die Prinzen, H-Blockx and others. The song was recorded at legendary Hansa-Studios in Berlin, where icons like Depeche Mode, Lou Reed and David Bowie recorded masterpieces of Rock‘n‘Roll-History. Aloha From Hell singer Vivi about the new single: “The song is absolutely emotional. Lyrics and music get under your skin. Once there is no sense in going on in a relationship, it is best to leave, not to hurt the other even more.“The “Walk away“ video was recently shot at the famous El Mirage Dry Lake near Los Angeles. It is the place where clips of U2 (Vertigo) and Madonna (Frozen) were filmed. This trip to the origins of Rock‘n‘Roll was an amazing experience for the young musicians, not only due to the video shoot in a spectacular setting. Besides extensive R‘n‘R-Sightseeing in the City of Angels, the band gave an interview accompanied by an unplugged life performance at one of the biggest rock stations in town: Indie 103.1, where musical heroes like Sex Pistols‘ guitarist Steve Jones, Dave Navarro (Jane‘s Addiction, Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Henry Rollins and band members of Guns N‘ Roses host their own shows.During the last couple of weeks the band spent almost all of their time in Berlin- except for some festival appearances (e.g. Energy In The Park) - recording a dozen of other songs: the tracks for the debut album “No More Days to Waste“. With recording sessions only just completed, there is no agreement within the band on which track is their favourite. “Everyone of us has his own favourite song“, guitarist Moo explains. A special cause for pride, however, is the song “Wake me Up“, as it is the oldest composition in the Aloha From Hell repertoire. The track was written as early as 2006, the year the band was founded, and was also the band‘s song in the finales of the Newcomer-Contest. The song is about a young girl who becomes pregnant unintentionally and is then left by her partner. “The song deals with a subject, that concerns some young girls“, says the singer, “I think such a situation would be a nightmare for me, but I would try my best not to let it get me down. My advise, girls: Don‘t believe in everything, guys try to tell you.“Right from the start it was clear for the band members to write their songs in English only. “The music we grew up with and listen to today, is in English“, says Vivi, “As a consequence, it was absolutely logic for us not to sing in German. Besides, it is much easier for me to express what I want to say in English.“ No doubt, that this decision holds great advantages, as the band‘s music is increasingly popular in various other countries (thanks to MySpace mainly). By now, there are thirty (!) international fan clubs and support web sites in Poland, Hungary, Norway, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Russia, Belarus, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Austria and the USA among other countries. AFH is often compared to other international top acts, which is a great honour for the band. However, these comparisons with other boys rock bands with a female singer often do not fit, when it comes to the music. Privately, the five shooting stars listen to rock and alternative rock bands like Fall Out Boy or classics like Dio‘s “Holy Diver“. And also on a national scale there are some artist who are a source of influence for the band. Vivien‘s greatest ideal is Die Happy singer Marta Jandová, with whom she would love to perform together, best at a major festival like “Rock am Ring“ or “Rock im Park“...It might well be possible that this dream will come true before long, as Aloha From Hell are not only bombarded with praise and affection by their numerous fans - approval for Vivi, Moo, Andi, Feli and Max increasingly comes from “official sides“. The band will receive the newcomer award “Bayerischer Löwe“, which will be handed over by the state representatives of Bavaria within the framework of this year‘s Popkomm fair. Furthermore the band is nominated for the Jetix-Award. Acknowledgement from prominent side was granted by their international label mates Leona Lewis and Madcon, with whom Aloha From Hell have recently performed. All these are important steps on the band‘s journey towards an (as a start) national career, which the band describes most moderately: “We would like to make ourselves a name in the music business and uphold it for as long as possible“, says Moo. The further steps: The second hit single (“Walk away“), the debut album (“No More Days To Waste“) and the first tour of their own.
