I grew up first in the small one traffic light town of Salida: local ski area-Monarch. My mom raised us 3 kids by ourselves with help from my brother's paper route that we'd get up and help him do if there was a foot of snow on the ground. I'll never forget how he bought me and my lil sis a cabbage patch doll with his money so we could be like the other kids. We didn't celebrate holidays, do the pledge of allegiance, etc because we were Jehovah's Witness. then we moved to another smalltown Alamosa: local ski area Wolf Creek. I found my love for green chile and potatoes there. I listened to classic hiphop and punk. I started listening to Digable Planets and Erykah Badu religiously and dated my still good friend from the college cd store "Nubian" This was my first exposure to East Coast hip-hop like tribe, Jungle bros. and of course Brand Nubian. At Colorado Mountain College I took classes like rock and ice climbing, avalanche seminar and I worked at a snowboard shop "pro tools" on Copper Mountain and then I went to the same college in Breckenridge (rode over 100 days that season)The snowboard team were in my classes so we'd go nightriding at keystone after class. We also used to ride the backcountry alot, I even got in a small avalanche one day on Loveland Pass, from the adrenaline of it I psyched myself up to jump off of a 20 foot cliff shortly after and then on the way home the brakes went out on my friends old car and we had to ram into the snowy mountain to avoid going off of the side of the cliff/road. I survived and tried to convince my mom to let me stay to ride and get sponsored, but she said she was "sponsoring" me to get an education, (She's a college professor with her Doctorate's now)
so I finished at Colorado State with my Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Fibers (batik, silkscreen, weaving, etc) and a k-12 art teaching certification. I participated in the school fashion show where my crazy peacock-tail, wrench, wave, and hourglass dresses started the showWhile in Fort Collins I attended alot of underground hip hop shows and befriended the guys at the radio station kgnu, boulder when I called in on mother's day with a spoken word rhyme. I won alot of free tickets for cool shows and hung out with alot of fresh emcees. I used to make dope T-shirts for the groups, dress funky, and just dance and sometimes chill with the emcees.
Anyway, then I moved to the SF bay area, to "think outside of the box" of Colorado.(since very few kids knew who Bob Marley was in my high school and I knew there had to be more) I worked at some gym childcares and got buff, "playing" around with some Capoeira for awhile, and was a preschool teacher before I found my job as an art director in a Boys and Girls Club in East Palo Alto. I worked there 5 years and love doing awesome murals, spoken word poetry nights, fashion shows, etc with them.I lived with my boyfriend Grand Da Visitor of Homeliss Derilex for 5 years and we were married for 2 years before we parted ways.
I've been taking Fashion Design courses for a few years now at a community college in Sewing Construction, Flat Pattern, Tailoring, Designer Techniques, Serging, Fashion Industry, Make Your Own Dress Form, Etc and participating in our yearly student fashion shows.
Everything happens for a reason and timing is everything.. the universe and all these rainbows and 711's (my lucky signs) are taking me to Hawaii. I'm working on my hip-hop clothing line and my bikini/lingerie line.....names undisclosed until trademarks come through.
shallow tidbits:Rainbow-obsessed, green-eyed fire dragon scorpio with an infamous booty born at 7:11---p.m.
But, seriously I'm in this universe to save the babies, give people a new perspective and style and follow the hints that are revealed to me.
