About Me
I was a DJ in Detroit and Kansas City for more than...well for quite a while. I have worked with more than 50 major recording artists and a ton of DJs. Some I will name and if I forget anybody...it doesn't mean it wasn't a pleasure to work with you, it just wasn't very memorable (you should try harder next time)! LOL ... I began my DJ career as a DJ for Detroit Rapper "Nikki Nik" and we were featured on the "Knowledge Is Power" Compilation Album released in 1990 on Tone Def Records. i recieved my initial training as a DJ from a legendary Detroit battle & competition DJ known as "DJ Shotgun" founder of the 12 Tech Mob. I also had the pleasure of working with Detroit DJ legend DJ Fingers of FM 98 WJLB in "Thee Posse". The compilation also featured National Recording Artist "Boss" and the founding member of the group "X-Change" Doc Chill. It was produced by Jewel Silas and recieved national recognition and sales. The song was etched into hip-hop history when Eddie Murphy used part of the lyrics in Beverly Hills Cop 1. Tone Def was a joint venture of Jewel Silas, RJ Rice and Robert Cohen.
In 1991 I joined Detroit Juice Productions teaming up with then accomplished DJ and rapper Ramon "DJ Illu$ionz" Burnham to form the group "Mayhem". We recorded several songs and focused our energy on developing a new sound and attitude for local Detroit rappers who at the time were struggling to get established in the already booming national hip-hop scene. Under his influences my battle rhyming and party rocking skills expolded. He still remains to be one of the best I have ever seen do either one! No bullsh*t!
Understanding the problems local artist faced...we side tracked our own rapping career and committed to DJing and promoting shows. While at the same time developing rap crews that have now become legendary in Detroit music history.
In 1992 we formed "D.A.S.", a group of rappers that were brought together because of their unique differences in style, content, and background. We went on to initiate ground breaking shows at places such as The Ebony Showcase Lounge, All Jokes Aside, The Club Joy Lounge, Napolian's Retreat, The Detroit West Club and more! The groups featured in these shows were The Rott-n-Apples, Young Tank, K-Funk (R.I.P.), Tru-N-Clear, Chief, Kilabrew, Natural & Freeway, Jessica "Care" Moore, Imusa, Moe, Uniq Stylz, 12 Tech Mob, High Q, 40 G, Kay-O, Mike Bonner, Spanky Hayes, CoCo, Tony Roberts, Toni Roni, Tommy Chunn and so many more! I returned to the mic to be the grand champion of FM 98 WJLB Rap Blast "FreeStyles In The Hood" hosted by Billy T and The troublesome Juvenile. The battle competition where callers battled live on the air and the city voted for the winner was held 15 weeks of which a member of our crew was not champion only three. This only happened after D.A.S. artist Kay-O and myself were forced to retire due to lack of willing competition. This set up a battle for grand champion between me and the winner of the other three weeks "Scarelly Moe". I defeated him easily by a unanimous vote (even though I caught him lying about it on a website and in every bio he has on the web!) and I was named grand champ. Not Scuruffy Moe!
After that my DJ career began taking off and I released several hit mix CDs under my DJ and stage name "The Outlaw" including 1999's "Rump Shaker Ice Breaker" a booty shake mix CD that featured 100 songs and sold well over 1000 copies.
I also partnered to start a graphics company "Action Graphics" and as a graphic designer I have done work for the likes of Luke, DJ Clue, DJ Trumptight, 12 Tech Mob and many more.
In 1994 I had Nathan "Big Crush" Burnham and began focusing on being a good mommy and took a small hiatis from performing and concentrated on artist management. Working successfully with over 25 artists at various different times including camps which featured Shady Records Artists Obie Trice (The Chosen Ones), Bizarre (Spoiled Milk Tribe) and smash poet success Jessica "Care" Moore.
After a hugely successful run of promoting shows which featured artist such as Snoop Dog, No Limit Records, Da Brat, Men At Large, A.J. Jamal, Mike Bonner, Spanky Hayes (The Nick Cannon Show), Naughty By Nature, CoCo (FM 98 WJLB) and many more!
In 1998 I gave birth again to Chrystian "Chrys2" Burnham and took a small break to bond with my shorty!
In 2000 it was a new millenium and time for us to spred our wings so Ramon now known as "Mr. Nizguy" after winning the 2000 Media Play Mountain Dew Battle Rap Competition and being dubbed by rapper and then Source Magazine owner Benzino "Nice", decided to move the studio to Grandview, Missouri and persue a full blown record label. I stayed in Detroit for 3 years operating the booming graphics company and securing our business ties at home.
Once the studio was established I moved to Grandview and joined the group the U.N. which was on it's second wave of rappers. The first which included Mr. Nizguy, Big Country, Clever, Mr. Nappy and Mr. Gamespit. This group produced two smash underground hits..."Big Bodies and Classics" and the follow up single "I'm A Rider". These songs sold thousands of copies on the website "Cornerband.com" and the group was voted #1 hip-hop group on the site for more than a year straight. I joined for the second wave of the group and we put out the hit underground CD "The Weed CD" with the smash single "Sticky" a joint featuring myself, Mr. Nizguy, Big Tezey and Clever. The "Weed Cd" had noticable appearances by Mannish and various others. When the Nsider run was over we had improved our production skills, tooled the studio and were ready to take the stage in the mainstream.
Looking to go national with our new sound and high quality production, we decicded to have the "K.C. Star Search" and this turned out to be our most successful venture to date.
The Star Search ran for more than 7 months and we gave away $5000 in prize money. When the smoke had cleared we had some of the best performers in KC history to perform at the show. The list of performers included Mike Curry (St. Louis), King Tank (Detroit), Rahmon (KC formerly signed to R. Kelly), Reece Slim (KC), Fusion (KC), Zack Ryan, Kut Kalhoun (KC signed to Tech N9NE), Kionna (New Orleans), Harmony (KC), Jus Jay (KC), Michelle Malone (KCK), Misha (KC), Sheed (KC), Tiny (KC), Pro Records (KC), Daz Entertainment (KC), 50/50 (KC), The Mixtape Legends and too many more to name. The show was hosted by Mr. Nizguy and yours truely was the DJ. the finals were highlighted by celebrity judges including Mike Bonner (Def Comedy Jam Comedian), Samia Anini (Professional Women's Boxer), Harry williams (Bloodstone Lead Singer), Marcus Spears (Kansas City Chiefs) and more! Ultimately we signed two artist from the Star Search...OMe' (pronounced Oh-May) and well known KC Hip-Hop standout L.E.L. We immediately began working on there initial projects. The first song we cut on OMe' was the smash hit "Find My Girl (The Black Beats Remix)". The song has been featured on several radio stations in mid level rotation and has become a legendary fan favorite at shows country wide. We went on to finish a 17 song CD called "2Nite It's On". The CD was a great success we sold well in the thousands and recieved nothing but rave reviews...with the unbelievable keyboard work of Mr. Brandon Black, the leadership, mixing and production ability of Mr. Nizguy the three were able to form an unbeatable team.
L.E.L. began work on his CD and the results were unbelievable. The 12 track CD titled "L.E.L." was enough to change the style of almost every MC that heard it. The mix of high end production, dope concepts and massive rhymes left most who heard the CD floored.
It was now time to take the stage again and this time we meant business. We picked up a third artist "Fusion" now known as "The Fuze" and set out to do our once a month Thursday Night shows called "Soul Night". A name we borrowed from a popular party they used to have in Detroit in the 90's. Fuze brought a level of energy to the show that was unparalleled...particularly for a west coast style Crip from KC.
Soul Night was unbelievable a packed house of more than 500 at Pete's Place in Grandview, Missouri an upscale club with plasma TVs and leather couches in the VIP were treated to a show of what was supposed local artist but played more like the all-star joints people pay $60 for. Admission was only $15 but the line was cleared three to four times a night and an impromptu after party had to be set up at a club down the street named Mac's that stayed open until 3:00AM. Pete's closed at 1:30AM but before we could get to Mac's it was already full to compacity with a line being cleared several times by the KC police. This prompted yet another continuation of the party. Several rooms at a hotel just north of Mac's were rented and the party continued until breakfast at 10:00AM Friday morning. Several people lost their jobs because they were unable to attend work the next day and we knew we had something BIG! So after three massively successful Soul Nights and more than 150 shows in one year we completed our studio in Grandview and began working on production for several successful artist such as 13 year old rap Phenom Nathan "Big Crush" Burnham who released his rookie mixtape "Prime Time MC" and solidified his street cred by going hood gold with more than 500 CDs sold, DJ Prolyphic Stylz with the now underground legend "Sin City Mixtape Album" which took the entire Midwest by storm...certified hood platinum with thousands of sales, "The Booty Call EP" a CD of original uncut R&B smashes produced by Mr. Nizguy and featuring various artists from the KC and Dallas areas and more. We have now expanded into video production and are launching our own ITV network www.WeGotNextTV.com. We have so many new things on the horizon it is hard to list them all. Just look for more great things from the best damn entertainment company in the biz....Homegrown Entertainment!
We have just recently signed Legendary Dramatics member Winzell Kelly to a record deal and have began production on his new album entitled "Winzell's World". You can hear tracks off the album by going to his page www.myspace.com/winzellkelly .
