Venganza de Cochino

vengeance of the scum: dub sludge, death step!!

About Me

Right from the start, rebel reggae and punk rock have been fighting for the same causes and blasting the system with powerful musical resistance. So without surprise, some have clued in on the obvious similarities of these two subcultures and created some incredible music that contradicted the pre-existing notions of what should go with what and in effect, helped to break down the exclusionary tendencies that certain "scenes" are often plagued by. So, with Venganza de Cochino, I wanted to take it a step further, a dub sludge, death step further. I have been a huge fan of reggae and dub music for over 15 years and punk rock was not far behind on my everyday listening and playing rotation. I remember in 1999 when I was talking about this with the old bassist of Corrupted after one of their shows in Osaka, Japan. We agreed how unfortunate it was that more people didn't dig the idea that sludge and dub could really be one in the same: huge slow dark heavy conscious rebel music that is equally cathartic and equally empowering. So this project has been on the back burner for almost 10 years and has only been breifly revealed once before at an underground skateboard competition in Vancouver, BC. I think it's about time we unleash it once and for all. This music is for the beaten-down, the struggling poor, the poverty-stricken hungry, the exploited and under-appreciated working class, the ones that have been cornered by the system and driven insane, the outlaws who break unjust laws, the imprisoned innocent, the starving artists, writers and underground musicians that fill the world with hope, passion and inspiration, the martyrs that have not died in vain, the ones who still believe in revolution that starts from the ground up while knowing that it's a life-long process and all the rest of the resilient people in this mad world who have been labeled scum or subhuman or subordinate and have been pushed back by the greedy pseudo-sophisticated fat cats and politicians from their privileged and seemingly advantageous positions of money-fed power in their ridiculous mansions and high-brow penthouse towers. It's time to rise up. It's time to take it back. It's time for Vengeance of the Scum. We are much stronger together...--Cristo Malviaje--New songs up soon, stay tuned...
