About Me

Heavily influenced by and interested in improvisational, bluegrass, Irish, African, and minimalist music - always looking for friends, jam mates, and something to help challenge me musically. Also very interested in exploring more percussive attributes of the mandolin's sound in addition to the more obvious, melodic side...Although much of what you may hear on the site is acoustic, I'm really interested in exploring ways of electrifying, expanding, and transforming the mandolin's traditional sound - the more recent posts have featured a bit the more of the electric, experimental, and ambient-mix stuff. I don't want to get trapped purely in the acoustic box (although it's a nice box). I'm a sucker for a good ambient groove, and lately I've been working on programming and editing drum loops for background of some of the stuff I've been doing. I hope you find it interesting...I've also been toying with the idea of internet collaboration. Anyone up for it?

SBHS

So, there's obviously been a bit of a recording stall as a result of all the work I've been doing at SBHS this term. I'm going to be starting a month of solo teaching this coming Friday that I'm guess...

Updates: Inventions 10 and 16, and the Original Demo of 2

For a little challenge, I decided recently to begin toying with creating, editing, and programming drum loops and writing music derived specifically from the native beats. It's been fun - taking a rhy...

Me finally singing, and an Ambient tune?

The brief tune I'm tentatively calling "Midnight" is my first vocal experiment. I kept it brief, and I wrote it last night laying in bed completely wired. Couldn't sleep. Anyway, my voice isn't the be...

"Kites" up; "Sunrise Suite, Pt 1" Down

6/6/08New sketch - tentatively named "Kites" - is up. Lately I've been experimenting with a lot of ambient ideas using the mandolin, and this is the first of those little snippets. I dug out my trusty...

Interlude 2

6/5/08Another tiny, raw little nugget I churned out this afternoon. I'm beginning to like the way this particular mandolin sounds hooked up to a Crybaby. I'll probably be playing around with this a gr...

Two new songs

Two new experiments up, written and recorded yesterday. They are both really raw, and there's a lot of room in "Invention 3" for spreading out and building up the sounds. The "Improvisation on Inventio...

Quick Note

I'm reuploading the Sunrise Suite file with adjusted levels on the harmonic "pings" throughout the tune. They sounded way too loud through the computer speakers (although ok in headphones). Also - and ...
