The Good China

About Me

Let’s get the usual questions out of the way first. Yes, there are eight people in The Good China. And yes, they do find it hard to fit on stage together. That’s half the fun of it.

The Good China was assembled from strangers in the dying days of summer in 2008. In the handful of months since forming, The Good China has attracted a great deal of attention, with national and local airplay, a plethora of live shows and, most recently, being named winners of the AIR New Music Prize at the 2009 St Kilda Festival.
The band's three-track demo, recorded just days after their first live performance, has been highly sought after, with hand-clapping, toe-tapping single “All Nothing” receiving feature track status on Triple J Unearthed. “All Nothing” has also been featured on the Victoria University-produced CD "Potential Unlimited". In late 2008, The Good China ventured across state borders, travelling to Adelaide as part of a tribute gig to seminal Australian band The Triffids. The collective rounded off 2008 with a huge four-week residency at The Empress.
This February, The Good China played on the AIR New Music Stage at the St Kilda Festival and was voted by the public as the most popular New Music band, scoring a cash prize and a spot on the Main Stage at St Kilda Festival 2010. The band has also been invited to perform at the National Youth Week celebrations hosted by FreeZa in March. With plans to record an EP and to continue gigging and touring, The Good China aren’t slowing down any time soon.
