I almost stopped. It was a bad night. Every time I went to sing-- the microphone shocked me. I told the soundman. He said "Just shake your a**, that's what they came to see". So, I quit. I wasn't enjoying it anymore. I quit right there. I apologized to the guys in the band and walked right out the door.
My father had a way with words. He always said, "You will either kill what you love or it will end up killing you". I am sure that he is not the original author of this little zinger---but he could paint a broad dark stroke with just a couple of words. He really should have been the songwriter.....
Two nights later I wrote "16th Avenue". The song is about giving up on the only thing that you have ever loved. It took as long to write as it did to play. The words just came. The first thing that I thought was I can't wait to play this live.
..That is when I realizedI can't kill it. It has to kill me.
The rest of the record came just as easy. I wasn't worried about being commercial or politically correct and I didn't change names to protect the guilty. The title of the album is "Pawn Shop Guitars" and below is the video for the single, "Nothin' Ever Happens" ---shot in my hometown--Winchester KY
The CD will (hopefully) be released in the summer of 2009--Lark Watts - Nothin Ever Happens
