About Me

Multi-platinum and BMI award-winning songwriter/artist Carlos Alberto Sanchez Ramirez (AKA as Charlie Zaa) was born in Girardot, Colombia. At only 32 years of age he has already recorded six successful CDs, and sold over six million records as one of Colombia's best-selling acts. His father was musician Luis Humberto Sanchez and Charlie grew up listening to the legendary artists Julie Jaramillo, Olympo Cardenas, Felipe Pirella, and Javier Solis. Charlie himself starting performing professionally at twelve years old and achieved major success with salsa bands Grupo Niche and Guayacan. As a Latin music teen idol he appeared on countless magazine covers throughout the Americas.Charlie favors classic lush guitar and violin string arrangements and never forgot the classic bolero "Latin torch song" melodies and rhythms of his youth. He recorded his first solo album 'Feelings' in 1996. The single "Un Disco Mas" was a hit, and the classic forties/fifties style of music appealed to four generations: grandparents, adults, young people and children. He sold 3.2 million records of first full-length solo album "Sentimientos", which featured interpretations of classic hits: 500,000 in Colombia alone. The album was also a hit in Puerto Rico and the U.S., and a major hit in Ecuador. Awards and recognition include Billboard charts, Latino Grammy nominations, and certified gold and platinum records across the Americas. Other number one hits included "Flor Sin Retono" and "La Pollera Colora"Charlie's next album was Segundo Sentimiento (A Second Feeling), followed by Ciego de Amor (Blind for Love), which was produced by the legendary Emilio Estefan, with Jon Secada handling vocal arrangements. The song 'By Your Love' (same name as the Mexican novel) hit number one on Billboard. After six years of touring he returned to the classic romantic arrangements and first producer Milton Salcedo with De un Solo Sentimiento, recorded in the same studio as his first album, with the same musicians. "I'm cooking this dish in the same pot" he joked with Billboard's Leila Cobo. A subtle mariachi element was introduced with a guest appearance by Mariachi Sol de Mexico. Many successful television appearances and projects have followed, including co-writing with Magic Juan from Projecto Uno.Charlie has spent almost three years preparing for and developing, and six months recording the album "Puro Sentimiento" (Pure Feeling). The song "Heart Cries" written by Rafael Hernandez and arranged by Jussed Gallo establishes him as the "bolerista" balladeer of modern times.
