Paddy Johnston & The Love Explosion

About Me

Hello, I'm Paddy, and I write pop songs and love songs. I like a good melody and acapella breakdowns, and like to think I sing from the heart and all that. After many years and many guitar-based bands (including the semi-legendary goth-punk outfit 3 Chords) and acoustic guitar based solo work, I've finally settled on piano-led indie-pop. I still play guitar and some of my songs feature guitar solos, but most of the songs are led by the piano.
I did a wicked gig in a tea shop in Camden, London, and they filmed a song for this thing called Balcony TV. Check it out!
I live in Chessington (basically Kingston) but go to Exeter University, where I study a bit, handing in poems and stories which I write anyway as homework. This is also fun. I have a poetry myspace too if you're that way inclined, why not have a look? This means you can normally see me around Kingston (New Slang/New Noise/Banquet Records etc) in the Holidays and Exeter (The Cavern etc) during term time. Do say hello. I'm up for playing anywhere though and love to travel:)
My Demo EP, 'Days of Summer' is now available! Although the songs are demos, they're very good quality as they were recorded by Dan Halliday, who is a massive deal. Click here or on the link below to visit my online shop, where you can buy the CD for the bargain price of £2. It's got four killer tracks on it, plus you get a free badge and sticker. T Shirts are coming soon too :)
Thanks a lot for visiting, I appreciate you taking the time to listen to me. If you like my music then feel free to add me, message me, or communicate in any way you like. I love making new friends :)
The artists in my top friends are all excellent, and I'm lucky enough to be able to call most of them friends, so check them out too.
I handle all management, booking and whatnot myself so for any enquiries e-mail me at [email protected] or send me a personal message. Thanks. In the tradition of many of my fellow artists such as Luke Leighfield and Sam Isaac , I would love to play your house, party, function or event, and would just want a little bit of cash for travel and that. If you want me to play then send me a message :D
Along with my dad, who is the mastermind behind bedroom avant-garde outfit the Maoists of Aix and former vocalist of eighties indie heroes The Reversibles, I run Westward Ho! Records, which is only just getting off the ground but is going to be great, and means we can do what we love independently. Click Here to check out its website. We've also just opened the Westward Ho! Records t-shirt shop! You can buy t-shirts with my logo on, the label's logo or other great bands. Click Here to check it out. Wearing any one of these t shirts will instantly boost your street cred. Fact.
For those who think CDs are old hat, or don't want to wait for them to arrive via snail mail, you can buy the EP tracks online too! Click this link to find out more:

Sounds Like: 'Taking elements of Luke Leighfield’s powerpop piano and TANAOU’s tender vocals Paddy Johnston’s Love Explosion creates a heartfelt sound. Though Days Of Summer is clearly a demo, with the occasional off vocals left in, it cannot hide Paddy Johnston’s carefully crafted song writing skill. The harmonies which build into “Fire, Fire, Fire” quiver with the makings of an indie pop hit and the rest of the EP keeps to stirring but focused structure. We are looking forward to what comes next…' - Button Thief Magazine
'Wonderfully named...that sounds really, really good" - John Kennedy, XFM
'Lovely Sounds' - Jack, Alcopop! Records
'A Byronic hero' - Barney Dufton, Radio Catfish on Xpression FM

'You're my hero' - Luke Leighfield
