DAT BE CUTTY:Cutty is one of those producers that are impossible to pigeon hole. Ever
evolving and adapting, his music has at one time or another been
described as hip hop, neo-soul, house, electronic, and acid jazz; while it’s been part of all of these, it’s always been something that is highly original and ahead of it’s time. Cutty openly understands the common threads of JDilla, Greyboy, AIR, Madlib, The Todd Terry Project, The Future Sound of London, Portishead, The Soulquarians, Jamiroqui, Daft Punk, DJ Electric Triangle, The United Future Organization, and Bjork the list could go on for pages. Where most people see differences, Cutty finds commonalities and artistic piety in both mainstream and underground music.A native of Newark, N.J., Cutty begin as a hip hop artist and writer in the late 80’s. Performing in local venues and artist showcases, lead to opportunities to work with many local artist as well as some established artists (Ecstasy from the legendary group Whodini, Redman, The Outsiders, The Artifacts, and Naughty by Nature). Gaining a reputation as being a verbal assassin and a deadly writer for others, Cutty, who at that time was known as The Swiglzt Gipsta, sign an artist deal with Perfect Pair Records, who was owned by Grammy Award Winning Engineer Ken Johnston (The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill) and his wife Sabrina Johnston, singer of the 1991 club anthem Peace.Cutty got into producing out of frustration as well as love for beats. The frustration came from not finding the kind of tracks that fit his style lyrically. The love has been from 3yrs old going to sleep to his fathers late night sessions, going through a well over 25,000 album record collection of everything from jazz, rock, and R&B to disco, salsa, and funk. Being exposed at an early age to so many genres of music, opened his mind to embrace diversity in music and developed an uncanny ear to produce a wide range of grooves. Soon after getting hold of SP12 drum machine and a few keyboards, Cutty began producing and started Wiretap Produxshunz. He is currently working on several releases for his own independent label, The Eko 3 Soundscape, Radical Records artist Quabills, Dipset newcomer Tom Gist and other local up and coming artist. Now with his own independent label and production company, Cutty can present to the world his unique sounds without boundaries and can experience true freedom through his music.
