MY SON'S STORY
My son accepted the Lord in his early teens at a Christian camp. He was very excited about the Lord. He was on our church's Praise Team, and sang terrific solos. As president of his high school Bible Club he had at between 25 and 30 students each week.
But he attempted suicide several times. The third time was during a Friday night talent show at his school. He walked backstage into a closet. He closed the door, placed a plastic shopping bag over his head and attached it with duct tape.
He was able to tear the bag off his head before he passed out. I am grateful to God for intervening in my son's despair.
When my son came out to our pastor, the pastor's first words were, "What will people think." He gave him one month to decide whether or not he was "really gay." If he was convinced, he wouldn't be able to minister in the church. The teacher-advisor of the Bible Club suggested that for the good of the club he should consider resigning.
The church effectively silenced my son.
At first he was angry. Angry at God and angry at the church. But he began to realize that it wasn't God who was against him. It wasn't even the whole church that was against him, just specific people in the church. After about 6 months the cloud of anger that had hung over his relationship with God had dissipated.

Many Simpson University grads favor a greater acceptance of lesbian Christians, gay Christians, bisexual Christians and transgender Christians. The Simpson University LGBT Alumni Council is for all people who want to see greater progress toward love and acceptance of LGBT students at Simpson. We work for greater understanding of the issues involved: growth of Christian love, reducing condemnation, and growth in Christian maturity and knowledge.
GOD DOESN'T REJECT GAY AND LESBIAN CHRISTIANS.
Some Christians like to use them as scape goats, though, to regain social influence and political power by appealing to people's prejudices. There's nothing like looking down on someone in order to lift one's own low self-esteem.
To gain political power, Hitler raised the self-esteem of the German people by demonizing Jews, Gypsies, and . . . homosexuals. Political power? Homosexuals? Deja vu?
