About Me

"BAND OF THE WEEK ... This Long Island band calling themselves Slothbear are not that slow, in fact these guys make some pretty fast paced, scuzzed out music. This fits right in with the sound of the moment, either by necessity or because they want to. I'm not quite sure which one it is... This isn't the brutal assault of all the lo-fi/no-fi bands of the moment, this is earnest songwriting with a deficient recording budget. Their latest song, "No Dialogue", shows what can happen when they have some-fi. The song rages at the outset, awash in sharp guitar riffs and steady rhythms before giving way to some sweeter sounding vocals. It shows a band that can write a song and make it stick in your craw."

" ...Slothbear make noisy, caustic pop songs with more catchiness – and treble – than you could shake a stick at. Since yesterday I've been pretty stuck on them and songs like "The Exceptional Bastards" and "You Make Me Choose You" are so instantly infectious and, well, I don't know, they're just really really good. I wouldn't be surprised if Slothbear were picked up by Siltbreeze in some time soon."
-- Skatterbrain!
"Apparently the band are still unsigned. If only I had a label."
-- Burning World
"... six tracks of seriously lo-fi fuzzed up slop pop that have enough spark of genius to suggest mega cult status beckons."

"i love when people send over shit with nothing other than a few mp3’s and a few sentences. such is the case with sloth bear. no individual band member names, no myspace page, no album title, nothing… just, and i am paraphrasing, hey we are sloth bear, we recorded this in our basement on a 4 track, blah blah blah. i appreciate that they didnt send me to myspace or some other bullshit. instead, they sent over 6 tracks of what turned out to be pure fuzzed out pop bliss complete with barely decipherable lyrics. that shit gets me every time, in all seriousness."
-- Captain's Dead
"Oh baby ... you gots to listen to some Slothbear."
-- Gimme Tinnitus
"My favorite performance of the night consisted of five Slothbear classic hits. The first song, 'Don't Taunt a Tiger' urged the people in from far and wide, captivating its listeners. The vocals switched off between frontmen and there was a lovely eclectic use of drumsticks as guitar picks. The guitars blended together incredibly with each other and with the note-worthy drumming backing the boys up. The whole band was totally in sync without much of an effort. Their last song, 'Olio/D Jam' could have lasted forever and I'm sure nearly everyone (coughSBUfacultycough) would have been okay with it, except that one of their frontmen looked as though he might have been having a seizure."

"Heard your band on MySpace - hated it."
-- My Hot TA
the songs you may be hearing were recorded on a broken four track with no microphones. big ups to our zoocratic brethren and all animals everywhere."
