I am currently living in Oaxaca, Mexico, and working for a NGO called, Grupo Mesofilo A.C, it is a non governmental, non profit organization that works with natural resources and sustainable development in indigenous communities in Oaxaca. I am currently taking part in a various projects in the area of el Istmo, Chinantla, and Sierra Norte. These are ranked as some of the most marginalized and poor communities in the state of Oaxaca. The areas are covered with natural resources, virgin jungle and an amazingly high biodiversity. However, these areas are being destroyed at a high rate, hence it is very important that these areas are conserved. One of the reasons for its destruction is the privatization, amongst others, such as forest fires, the depletion of resources due to slash and burn. One of the important factors of my job is that we work with the communities to return these areas to their natural state so they can have access to the resources they had before. I love my job even though it can be very rough, and i have to take extremely cold showers in the rivers je je! I learn a million things everyday, witch makes every day a whole new experience.
