About Me

Doesn't time fly when you're having fun? I've been on MySpace since November 2005 now and was a complete novice when it came to anything online (apart from shopping which I was very experienced at!) Consequently, I feel that the wonderful world of the internet has taught me more about people in a short space of time than I would ever have learned in the real world. As a result, I'm now a bit more clued-up and know who's genuine and who isn't (though I did always have a strong suspicion that Nigerians didn't want to marry me), I've met some lovely people who I'd never have known otherwise, and get the opportunity to communicate in writing, which I love doing.Other than that - well, what can I tell you? I'm friendly with a good sense of humour, I love music and going to see bands and performers play live. And I like: art, visiting art galleries and museums, going out with friends, puppies (not going out with puppies, just puppies), chocolate, the sea, sleeping, reading, PS2 stealth games and the Driver series, toast and butter, being inside with the central heating on when it's a cold dark night outside, lizards, short holidays. I dislike: liars, men who are all talk (yeah, I know there's a lot of them about), racists, bigots, celery, Big Brother, snow, raspberries, romantic fiction, litter louts, melon.

I'd like to meet:

Interesting people with a good sense of humour and something to say, which preferably doesn't involve the sentence: "do you have webcam?"

Music:

In no particular order, just a few of my faves: Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Foo Fighters, White Stripes, PJ Harvey, The Frames, Soulwax, dEUS, Nick Harper, Richard Thompson, John Martyn, Beck, David Byrne, Talking Heads, Bonnie Prince Billy, Richard Buckner, Willard Grant Conspiracy, Wilco, Queens of the Stone Age, Califone, Roddy Frame, Clayhill, Mark Mulcahy, Elvis Costello, Tom Baxter, Joseph Arthur, Jeff Klein, Billy McKenzie/The Associates, Morphine, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Rage Against the Machine, I Am Kloot, Audioslave, Songdog, Arctic Monkeys, Jacob Golden ...

Movies:

Nothing new here as it takes me ages to get round to watching films but here are a few favourites: Apocalypse Now, Paris Texas, The Jerk, The Life of Brian, Amadeus, The School of Rock, Nosferatu, Fitzcarraldo, True Romance, Atlantic City USA, all Coen Brothers films, The Jerk, Delicatessen, Matinee, The Straight Story

Television:

Nothing much on tv nowadays that grabs me but generally love biographical documentaries, period drama, music progs, and some trashy stuff too. Ooh, and I love the Tour de France coverage and think both series of Early Doors were masterpieces. And I like The Simpsons and Futurama of course....

Books:

Way too many favourite books to mention but here are some favourite authors: Charles Dickens, Jonathan Coe, Kate Atkinson, Douglas Coupland, Haruki Murakami, Joseph O'Connor, Annie Proulx, Carl Hiaasen, Bernice Rubens, W Somerset Maugham, Alan Bennett, Tom Wolfe, Brett Easton Ellis

Don't get mad, get even

Driving back from my friend's house today where I had stayed over following a night out, I decided that I really fancied some cake (excessive consumption of vodka often gives me such craving...

The naked truth

I tend to go to the gym a fair bit, especially the one we have at work as it's handy and membership is cheap.  One of the quietest times to go is first thing in the morning so I do my warm-up and...

Celebrity Skin

I went to Barcelona a couple of weeks back for a short break with a friend. The weather was hot and sunny so we decided to head down to the beach one afternoon just to cool off and relax for a while.&...

Sex and drugs and sausage rolls

This time last week I was at Leeds Festival, stood in a large field watching Placebo. Despite the abundance of what looked suspiciously like 14-year olds on one massive day out, the rubbish and occas...

Don't mention the war!

The situation in the Middle East between Israel and Lebanon is pretty horrendous and I won't go into that here.  Our national television news would have us believe that all Lebanese civilians are...

6 weird things about me......

I have to admit I'm only doing this because I was tagged by the lovely Simon, but here goes: 6 weird things about me: 1)  When I was a baby, my ears were embedded in my head.  This embarrass...

Shoplifters of the World Unite

This is a true story - well you definitely couldn't make it up. Last week, I was in my local Matalan - being a serial shopper - and I spied a t-shirt all on its own amongst some skirts.  As all g...
