For Steve, DJing and electronic music has always been in his blood. His fascination for electronic music came about from his early child hood with exposure to amongst other Ultravox, Eurythmics and Japan. "I just loved that sound, and I remember my Mum being really into Roxy music when Eno was in the band, there was somehting about sound of synthesisers that really got my attention I remember ".
During his teens Steve became aware of a new music that was taking the underground by storm. Hip Hop and it's Electro sibling were born. "Yeah I loved Hip Hop, but the electro sound was really the sound that I loved. It brought together the sound I had latched onto and injected a real energy into it".
Then at 15 Steve's interest in Hip Hop and Electro took an interesting new twist when he met a friend who introduced him to scatch mixing. "Yeah a friend had a bunker in his front garden which was ideally sound proofed. We had a mobile system set up down there and we used to try and scratch mix on this old system with record sleeves for slip mats, very funny when I look back on it". From there investments in Technics decks were made and basic multitrack recorders and drum machines.
From 1985-1989 Steve learn't the basics of production with limited resources and recorded a few Hip Hop demos in a bigger local studio, taking rough ideas that had been created in the bedroom and then working them up in a professional environment.
Then a November night in 1989 was to change Steve's outlook on music forever., "I had a lot of older friends who had been to Ibiza and came back with stories of amazing experiences in open air superclubs, some had ridden their luck and stayed the whole Summer. They were all talking about this new drug called excstasy and how it had produced this amazing scene on the Island".
Oakenfold, Holloway, Rampling and Walker came back from the very same experience and decided to try and create this special vibe back in London. Schoom and Future were born and the rest is History.
"i remeber getting dragged up to Heaven one night to go to this night called Future. Paul Oakenfold and Nancy Noise were playing. The experience was profound and changed my whole musical outlook in one night."
After that there was no looking back. The Hip Hop records got tossed to one side and House Music was on the weekly shopping list. "I seemed to have a natural gift for beat mixing. I don't whether the scratch mixing gave me an edge in the learning process, but to me it was like falling off a log".
By chance Steve met a young aspring DJ called Oliver MacGregor through the grapevine and a mutual passion for music sparked a friendship which would prove to stand the test of time. Over the next ten years parties were thrown appearances were made and many, many crazy adventures were undertaken.,
From Steve's earliest experiences in the studio as a teengager he always wanted to engineer, and grasp an understanding of the production process. So in the Spring of 2004 Steve took a sound egineers course to learn the funadamentals or analogue and digital recording.
Since graduating, Steve has embarked on a difficult learning curve, honing his production skills, and refining his studio software and equipment to reflect the sound of todays house music. "It's been a bit like the blind leading the blind for the past year, but I'm getting more and more comfortable with the tecnology and listening to as much music as I can, and now finally, the fruits are coming to bear".
