Broadway The Lyricist

About Me

Born in Manhattan and raised in Brooklyn, Jason Ramirez is the second child to working class parents who arrived to New York City at a very early age. Growing up, Jason was influenced by the New York City hip-hop movement. His involvement in the culture was like any other adolescent...he embraced it as his own. He studied and became New York City hip-hop. With dreams of superstardom, he wanted to become the largest conduit of entertainment in New York City...Broadway. With such a large family, he would sometimes spend his weekends in Washington Heights, where he kept true to his heritage and traditions. This was his early years, until his parents made an abrupt migration to Florida, which would be a pivotal moment in his life. During this move, Broadway was taken from all he knew. His relationship with New York City became a bond of absence. That absence made his love grow stronger. Florida had a different sound than he was used to. It was a sound that was difficult for him to embrace, so he felt he had to create his own music. He made his own sound. He spent his next few years perfecting his craft as a lyricist. He gained the ability to bring tales to life with songs like "Streets of New York", where he speaks as the city streets in first person. He also pays homage to the likes of artists who came before him. Broadway has gathered a library of great artists who influence the music he makes. He has opened for the legendary KRS-One, in a Lyricist Lounge mini tour put together by co-founder Danny Castro. Other artists included: Joell Ortiz, O.C., Jin, Pharaoh Monch, and more. Castro believes "Broadway is a finished product". Broadway hopes to add some lyrical content to the rap game without losing the ability to sell units. His long distance relationship with hip-hop allowed him to appreciate it as it once was. It is that which makes him different. It is that which drives him. It is that which makes him Broadway. With so many artists in the industry rhyming about how "real" they are, Broadway realized how important it is to rhyme about how "original" it has to be. You haven't made it in this game until you've made it on...Broadway
