S.S. “SUMUMBA SOBUKWE†NEELY, BSW, is an Experienced social worker, seminar leader, consultant and author of Avoiding The Dating Games-How To Spot A Potential Relationship Volume 1, Echoes from the Colony, and You Belong to Me. He is also the founder and president of THE MAAT SERIES, a New York-based consulting service that offers over 70 personal and professional development seminars and workshops. S.S. has written articles for several newspapers and appeared on radio and television programs across the country.
He has recently been featured on local radio programs for WHCR’s ASHE’ and www.caribworldlradio.com and two of his workshops: Working with Troubled Adolescents and Anger and the African-American male have been prominently featured at Good Shepherd Human Service Workshops and another ‘Healing in the hood’–Helping our clients overcome the environmental hazards of living in their community-, have been featured at the National Puerto Rican Family Institute and Covenant House in New York City.
S.S. was a keynote speaker at The Administration for Children Services ‘Take Our Child To Work Day’ in 2005 and 2007 and also gave a series of workshops for ACS’s Youth Development Department for young adults moving from Foster Homes to Independent Living in the Summer of 2005. Neely also was a guest speaker at YOUTH SUMMIT DAY and facilitated a series of workshops entitled: Cultural Images-HIP-HOP AND BEYOND for The Visiting Nurses Association, in May of 2005. He has also recently appeared as a panelist for a discussion on ‘What African-American men want in a wife’ Part 1 and 2 and in ESSENCE Magazine.
In 2006 he was featured in the documentary film about singles in New York, entitled: ‘Potential Partners’. Presently his second book of poetry, You Belong To Me (Poems From My Heart), and a third book Avoid The Dating Games: How To Spot A Potential Relationship are both being published by Xpress Yourself Publishing. Neely is also the author of over 70 workshops for personal and professional development and is a former columnist at www.afromerica.com.
Neely recently coordinated Parenting and Teen Workshops and Classes for Cardinal McCloskey Prevention and Foster Care Services, and NY Foundling Preventive Services respectively, as well as for various human and social service organizations across New York City.
