About Me

I have The Dead Hecklers here live at the Blue Sky room in Dunsmuir CA a couple years ago. Thats me singing, Dennis Holiday on bass, Andy Johnson on drums, Harry Blackwell, guitar, Vanda Raven Moon keyboard and Tony Martin on guitar. The final lineup. Dave Kloski and Leroy Mathwig were original members of a project that started out with the long winded name: Reverend Vern and The Dead Hecklers. It actually started out as Gross Fuss...but that is a story for another time. Spookysloughfoot is from an ongoing studio project with technical wizard and musician Cal Schindeman of Waterdog Recording, Dunsmuir, CA. A fun song with other kookie stuff to be found right here soon. Fire of Love is with The Block but just a couple of years ago. (I left The Block originally in about 1988? I think.) We have a blast when we get together and jam at guitarist www.HansLarson.com 's studio in Berkeley, CA. That is Chris Maniatis on drums and I think Mike Behrens on Bass. This is about take 3 of total improvisation. "Always record!" (Tenacious D) The same line up is heard on the next song, See You, that is an original of mine from fairly recently. Part of the body of work for the ancestors who are passing from this world every minute.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: This is it! Thanks MYSPACE!!!!!
Band Members: ME! Ben Lewis. From Weed, Mt Shasta CA, and from Berkeley CA in the distance, B Town! I will try to credit all involved musicians. Especially when it comes to music recorded with other bands in the past. Anything I do post with me singing is stuff I have written at least the vocal line and lyrics, unless otherwise noted.
Influences: Anything you can think of. Top 3 would have to be Led Zeppelin, Bunny, Peter and Bob, Ronnie James Dio, Mozart, Thelonious Monk, anything with Chris Cornel singing, anything with some emotion, good intent and conviction! That was more than three. I hate trying to pigeon hole my tastes cuz they are all over the place. I went to high school with Charlie Hunter (Shout out! Yo Charlie, remember me? What? No? Aw man...) and I just love the version of Mr Puffy that he recorded on 'Live at the Up and Down Club'. I was there when the first incarnation of Alphabet Soup recorded their songs for what is one of the great Bay Area compilations produced by another homey: Gary Angel (What up G?). That was engineered by another even earlier school mate, Jon Nielson (Shout out! What? Still nothin'?). Ya'll bored yet? You fools ever hear of Mofessionals? Check out my boy CB with a band of B Town greats. Now that was how you do a funk/soul/Rock/Hip hop cross over! Eric Smyth, Nicholas Wolf, Mike Marshal, Zoe Ellis, Loring Jones, Wishbone', and that legendary horn section! SHOUT OUT B TOWN! I have to say I really like Springsteen, Dire Straights, Yes, Kansas, Rush that kinda shit.
