Brute Force & Ignorance

About Me

Hard-rockin' bunch of Old Gits from the North-West of England. Loud, raw and in-yer-face. Covering - no, make that 'Brutalising' - songs by Rory Gallagher, ZZ Top, Georgia Satellites etc.

The songs you are hearing were recorded 100% live during soundcheck at the mysterious and legendary Club Bamjimba, somewhere Up North. Presented to you with warts and all. You lucky people...
Some background:
Guitar & Vocals
Rob’s been at it for donkey’s years. But enough about that. In terms of the music scene, he’s best remembered (if at all, let’s be honest) as the leader of ultra-obscure NWOBHM outfit Bashful Alley in the early ‘80s. (Hey - why not check out the Bashfuls myspace page? It's at myspace.com/bashfulalley. You'll be glad you did...) BA were a 3-piece blues-metal outfit formed while Rob was living in Lancaster. Years later, now living in London, he became lead guitarist for Britrock also-rans Dollface (one album and 3 singles released, supported that Slash geezer on a UK tour, toured all over the UK and Europe – you know the drill). When that band split up in ’97, Rob drifted for a while, becoming an (at the time) occasional member of Deafclub Deluxe, based Up North (which was one hell of a commute!), until he finally tired of living in The Smoke…
Drum & Bass
Glen and Will first got together as a rhythm section in 1695 - sorry, 1965 - with Tony & The Fontaines, a blues band playing local gigs in Morecambe and Lancaster. They soon spread their wings and headed for London where they played support for the likes of The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, The Brian Auger Trinity and Jimmy James & The Vagabonds. The band line-up changed, as did their name to The MBQ (Modern Blues Quintet). They toured England as support to bands like The Graham Bond Organisation (pre-Cream), Spooky Tooth, The Small Faces, The Who, The Byrds, Geno Washington, Family, Robert Plant & The Band Of Joy (pre-Led Zep) and other touring soul stars.
While Glen kept playing, a career change for Will kept them apart until 1999 when The Fabulous Fontains reformed and the boys (!) were reunited. (Altogether now – aaahhhh…) They played pubs and clubs in the North-West for the next 7 years.
By a strange twist of fate it was around then that Rob moved Up North (from Dahn Sarf), met Will and auditioned for The Fontains. He turned down the job and instead stole the rhythm section through stealth, cunning and bribery. And the lure of The Big Rock Music, of course… And so it came to pass that BF&I was born in 2007, on a mission to purge blandness from the gig circuit. Will they succeed? Only time will tell…

I Take What I Want

As it's about a year since we joined myspace, I thought it'd be a good idea to upload another track onto the site. This is our version of Rory Gallagher's take on the old Sam & Dave song, 'I Take What...
