Cristen Grey and the Moving Dunes

About Me

I've just added sample Soundscapes for TV and Film. Please go to www.cristengrey.com to review!Hailing from the enchantment of Santa Fe, NM, Cristen was actually born in Albuquerque, NM where she was introduced to a myriad of musical influences. Her father was a multi-instrumentalist who played classical pieces as well as the traditional music of Northern New Mexico, her mother played harmonica, piano and sang. The house was filled with the reverberations of wonderfully made music, delightful lyrical anecdotes and every stringed instrument you could imagine. Then "IT" happened...by the age of twelve Cristen got hooked to the sound of a distorted guitar and by the age of fourteen, she was composing and performing at local coffeehouses, as well as sneaking in under-aged performances at various venues. Of course all this was prior to the Moving Dunes...oh yeah, who and what are the Moving Dunes? Well, here is one explanation...Physicist solves desert mystery...December 2004From Marco Polo onwards explorers have told stories about strange sounds they have heard in the desert. It is known that the sounds are produced by sand dunes when they avalanche, but the exact mechanism behind the phenomenon had remained a mystery. The sounds produced can be heard up to 10 kilometers away and resemble a drum or a low-flying jet. The sounds result from avalanches in which the grains drum on one another, exciting elastic waves on the dune surface, with the vibration of the sand bed tending to synchronize the collisions. In many ways the surface of the sand bed acts like the membrane in a loudspeaker...Ok, really, they are the kick ass musicians that I am so privileged to be working with!
