Being one of the three winners selected from the entire Nation, Dr. Ying was offered a debut tour with the Chinese Youth Orchestra throughout the country,
playing contemporary music composed for special occasions.
After she immigrated to the U.S. in 1992, she continued her professional training at the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts. Since then she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Music from Oberlin Conservatory, her Master’s degree in Music from Indiana University, and the Doctorate degree in Musical Arts at Rice University.
Dr. Ying's rare talent has been recognized and rewarded with full scholarships and prizes throughout her musical career, including the prestigious summer music festivals such as Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, Summer Piano Festival at SUNY New Paltz, and the Las Vegas International Summer Music Festival. Her outstanding sensitivity and passion, along with her well-rounded musicality allows her playing from J.S. Bach to Bartok to an experience full of life and emotional power!
In the U.S., at one time or another, Dr. Ying was the proud winner of the
Southern California Bach Competition, the Redlands Bowl Competition, the Bartok/Kabulevsky International Piano Competition, and the Jacob Flier International Piano Competition. Of special honor and recognition, Dr. Ying was invited and became the first pianist ever to play at Hollywood's home of the Oscars, the Kodak Theatre.
