SQNS (Status Quo No Show)

About Me

Layout Created at MyProfilePimp.com
Status Quo No Show was a dream; to express one’s self, no matter how unpopular the art. The greater the forces to suppress this dream, the greater this dream was ... and will be. SQNS is proactive and reactive with sights set on the enemies of the individual’s voice.
Ever since Tony got on stage with the Circle Jerks at his first Punk show in Raleigh, NC in 1985; he not only was hooked on Punk he knew he had something to get out - the Punk Rock Way. Drugs and excess are an infamous pair and they more than anything else got in his way. He let the dream slip away. Tony got tired of both the Punk scene and the drug scene when he left Los Angeles in 1993. He returned to NY and concentrated on goals while maintaining his non-conformity in a business suit - but of course still loved Punk music. He eventually recovered from addiction as well. At yet another Circle Jerks show in January 2002, he had an epiphany – it was time to get back into the Punk Scene.
He met soon-to-be buddy Liel Sins at Brooklyn’s renowned DIY venue; The Temple. SQNS had already been formed but the bassist was not committed. So, at a Sub-humans show Tony asked Liel to join the band. Liel did not know how to play bass but that was fine with Tony – he didn’t know how to sing.
Drummer Izzy Killed Himself was ceremoniously booted from the band when his ego grew and his commitment waned. He was replaced by the original drummer Mark Scarecrow. But as Minor Threat said long ago “you picked up a bible, and now you’re gone.” One of his problems was the upside down cross on Billy Barbarian’s guitar strap. The more he gripped his church the more he let go of SQNS. Jimmy Dukes was already a fan and a regular at the shows. At his audition, everyone knew he was the man. Just like Liel, he had heart + he could sure hit those skins.
What is it with SQNS guitarists? It seems like it’s always talent - with issues. After Billy Barbarian left the band just before a gig, original guitarist and co-founding member Mike Pissed stepped in to play the show. The band loved Mike but knew his commitment was not there. Jimmy worked at a cigar shop in SQNS hometown Bensonhurst, and this older guy would come in there and they would talk about Punk. Turns out, he was the guitarist for early NYHC band Ultra Violence who was part of the first Hardcore scene. He had never stopped playing; and was interested in joining a hardcore band again. SQNS has always had good guitarists but Dave Dynamite brings so much to the band, he has to be talked down from his perch now and then. The combination of the two old school men with the young blood makes for a very interesting balance.
The band has suffered a number of setbacks. There has been lot of procrastination and delays. Tony’s passions, scuba diving and sailing were big distractions for him and he apologized to his band mates declaring he was there for the SQNS family. There have even been rumors of a breakup – which have never been true. Despite any shortcomings, the band managed to stay intact. SQNS vows that the bullshit is over and has unified themselves. Several demos have been previously made but never released. Finally, a four-song demo is about to distributed. Come to one of our shows and we promise to deliver on passion and sincerity. You truly cannot appreciate SQNS unless you see them live.
