***Cougars and Lions Double UP on the Under 17’s - http://www.mklions.com/lionclubs/?id=682***
The basketballers from MBA Cougars, in partnership with Bedford Lions, have won another double.
They won the gold medal for winning the under-17s Bucks junior basketball league and the gold medal for the playoffs on Sunday in Mandeville Sports Centre, Aylesbury. This was a new collaboration for the MBA Cougars and Bedford Lions in their first season training and playing together.
After playing 10 games this season to win the league, they played two games on Sunday to decide the winners of the play-offs.
The semi-final against AGS was a hard-fought game with a battle of the giants, both sides fielding three 6ft 4ins plus guys. Reiss Haggith put both free throws in with three seconds to go as Lions won by five (32-27).
The finals were played against Shenley who were last year's beaten finalists by the Lions who put a stop to their six-year unbeaten run. Strong rebounding from Biyi Bolinwah and Jordan Stewart and great ball control and finish by Josh Lydon and Connor Washington completed a 24-19 win.
* The season may be over but there is still plenty of chance to hone basketball skills in Stevenage this summer.

* Stevenage Extreme continues in August with a streetball 3v3 featuring Renegade from the Streetball Extreme team.

***Cougars and Lions Double UP on the Under 15’s***
The basketballers from MBA Cougars, in partnership with Bedford Lions have Scored a Hat Trick!
The Under 15’s team won the gold medal for winning Bucks junior basketball league and the gold medal for the playoffs this Sunday in Mandeville Sports Centre, Aylesbury.
Already league champions after playing 10 games this season, they went on to play two games on Sunday to decide the winners of the play-offs.
The semi finals against Beds Knights saw the boys start as they meant to go on, winning 23-19. Top scorer was Kenny Kwame scoring 6 points, the team played well helped to victory by James Clarke as point guard , with his assisting and 3 point score.
The final was against Shenley. This was a thoroughly entertaining and close fought game for all the spectators on the day. The committed team lead all 4 quarters, with Laurence Levy & James Clarke collecting the first points in tight 1st quarter ending with Lions up 4 - 3. 2nd quarter saw the entry of Zac Gibson & Kenny Kwame, whose 4 & 2 apiece, saw Lions take the score 10 - 9 at half time.
The 3rd qtr battle ended 16 - 14 to the Lions, with scores from Levy (2), Adrian Akindale (1), Gibson (1) & Kwame (2). They tied in the 4th quarter 22 - 22 (all 6 points from Kwame) and with only 30secs to go on the clock, the Lions top scorer for the season Gibson took to the free throw line and nailed his first shot for the lead. Some resolute defending by the determined Lions either side of a 'time-out' saw the U15 Lions ROAR to a double victory in their first season together winning both the BJBL League & Play Off medals.
The players worked hard as a team, their defense, rebounding and determination paid off. MVP for the day was without doubt young Kenny Kwame, who's shooting, passing & rejections were of the highest standard.
