Nanook
Frederik and his older brother Christian are from Greenland. They grew up in Nanortalik which is a small town in South Greenland, where their parents opened a music store called Atlantic Music ApS. The store moved to the capital Nuuk where Christian now has been working since 2002 after he stayed in Qaqortoq for three years (College). He was in a couple of high school bands in Qaqortoq playing with friends after school.
Frederik moved with his parents to Nuuk in 2002, but decided to move to Denmark so he could study. They both completeted studying (business-school) and Frederik also works in the music business selling musical instruments (in Copenhagen) just like the rest of the family. He now plays in a couple of bands in Copenhagen.
Music has always been a part of their lives, and in the eighties their father had a band in South Greenland where he performed with his singing and his guitar. Christian and Frederik learned to play the guitar from their father and friends when they were very young, and Frederik even participated on a cd when he was only 13 years old and they both played guitar in bands which sometimes played in places where you had to be 18 to enter. Their father usually approved so they could play concerts for the small quiet town Nanortalik.
Nanook made their first official track together called "Inuup Tarraa", which means "Shadow of Man" and is a track produced for Christian's short film titled with the same name. The short film is about a middle-aged man who has lost his family. The loss has made the man depressed and alcoholised. The fight for self-respect lies ahed! A 'must see' short film which made a huge debate on national TV, beacuse of the heavy and serious subject in the short film, and Christian was also invited to the World Wide Short Film Festival in Canada (Summer 2007).
In the year 2008, Ib Uldum and Martin Zinck became members of Nanook. Ib is from the island Qeqertarsuaq where he grew up playing music with different bands and later he and his brothers and Martin became a group called DDR. Ib now lives in Nuuk. Martin is from Aasiaat, and has also played in different bands, before DDR, through his youth and is also now living in Nuuk. Christian and Frederik were already friends with them so it was natural to play in the same band as well even if the style of the music was different from DDR. Nanook is going to the studio next month to record their first album, so at the moment they are spending a lot of time working on the tracks. The album will come out in October.
