Basically our idea is for the club to work on lots of different levels.
It’s a place for people of all levels of song writing experience to try out new material and get constructive feedback in a supportive atmosphere. Whether you are a novice trying out your songs for the first time or an experienced songwriter with lots of treasures in the locker what we all want is someone to tell us honestly but nicely what’s working with our songs and what isn’t, what appeals and what still needs a bit of work.
It’s also a space for meeting possible collaborators, if you’re Paul looking for your John or Reggie looking for your Bernie you might just meet them here! Perhaps you’d like to start writing songs and want some tips from the experts? Perhaps you’re just a big fan of music and would like to come along to see and hear the works in progress and see / hear some masters of their craft at work sweating over a hot fretboard.
We’re looking at creating 15 min slots where someone can play one or two of their songs and then there’s a quick break for chat and feedback with a longer break in the middle.
SongSmith is run by experienced singer/songwriters with contacts with local bands, promoters and venues and above all lots of other singer / songwriter friends. Come along and meet us and tell us what we can do to support the huge wealth of talent that Bristol and the BS & BA postcodes support.
We’re also hoping to get out to the regions and run local ‘franchises’ so if you’re outside that area don’t worry – talk to us too and we’ll sponsor and arrange a SongSmith Club night near you.
At present we are taking a break for the summer (the summer? Where? When?) and to organise BARSS Fest.
We are consulting with local singer / songwriters to see what improvements we can make to the format launched in May and are looking for a venue and format to relaunch in the autumn.
