Well sure jaysus howaye, come in and have a cup of cha!My name is Robbie Walsh as you have guessed im sure, im a musician and like most i live for it, its a huge part of my life and i wouldnt have it any other way.I was introduced to the trad scene as a child by my uncle and insperation Robbie Walsh. i was so amazed the first time i heard him play, i never thought someone could make such a complicated and diverse rhythm from one drum. He gave me my first drum at the age of 13 and iv never looked back since. once i got my first few basic rhythms from him i practiced myself for about two years, i couldnt do lessons with him as he was away giging and doing shows all over Europe and America so my father brought me to a school of music in clondalkin, dublin called Arás Cronin(cant spell it =/) were i was thought the foundations of traditional dances, the layouts of the tunes ,the rhythms and techiques by my teacher and mentor Noel Dowling. since then i had played with differnent groups like Whiskey still and the wild colonion boys and and listened to alot of different things such as Kíla, Rodrigo y Gabriella to better my style and evolve it to a contemporary one learning as much as i could about all different music tradtions from different countrys. Three years ago i went into competition for the first time, i took the dublin championship Title and got third in lenster. last year i practiced like a mad thing and did a rocky balboha job on them and won the All Ireland title.I have been very fortunite too have met as many genuine people as i have in trad, after the All Ireland i decided to put a group together called "Blasta" within the year we have played some great venues such as vickerstreet and the button fatory in dublin and are doing a few festivals too, the band consists of flute and whistles Noel Nesbitt from the famous Nesbitt Family (Brother too maraid Nesbitt from celtic women) on guitar, Enda Cloke a hugely experienced musician who was classicly trained, Banjo and mandolin Paul Cooper one of the most diverse banjo players in the trad scene today, Singing and bouzouki is Daoirí Farrell an up and coming tallent from crumlin in dublin who is taking the trad world by storm. i was asked to apear on an album by Tom walsh called C Change along with other excellent musicains such as Joe Foley (AN BEAL BOCHT and famous Bouzouki maker) and Maurice Lennon (Stockton's Wing) and have gathered alot of experience from it. www.tomwalsh.org, also this year i have been doing alot of other studio work with demos and different projects, i recently appered on Daoirí Farrell's Solo album "The First turn" along with Alan Dogherty (Gráda) and Jame Ryan (Nábac). I also started fulltime teaching Bodhrán a couple of years ago mainly around dublin but will also be doing workshops around the country.well anyway thats the guts of my career to date and i hope you like what i have up here.if theres anything you want to know just drop me a comment.
