Influences: I'll try to put this in order as I remember it. Anything that I thought was awesome influenced me in some way or other, but here are the ones that stick out. First would be my dad, who's Doc Watson style flat-picking style was the coolest thing ever when I was little , Johnny Cash, I cut my teeth on every song he did and came away with an appreciation of just how great 3 chords and the truth could be. Elvis Presley for being bigger than life in his live show, James Denton for showing me just how cool a one man band could be. Kelly Briggs who gave me countless free lessons and pounded proper technique and theory into my stubborn head.AC/DC's Angus Young, Slash, Mark Knopfler for his beautiful tone and melodic phrasing, Bob Seger for his equally incredible voice and lyrics , Chuck Berry who started it all for every rock-n-roll guitarist. Bon Jovi/ Richie Sambora made me want to buy a 12 string and learn to sing harmony, C.C.R.,Steve Caton who taught me most everything I know on singing harmony. Journey and all the good hair band ballads made me want to try my hand at keyboards. Jerry Reed for his amazing composing, Elton John taught me just how different an inverted chord could sound. Ray Charles for his voice and amazing mastery of rhythm, Sam Cooke for his voice and vocal phrasing, most recently to name a few, Emmylou Harris, Vince Gill, Brandi Carlile, the Killers, Dwayne Hilton, Arlo and Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Delbert McClinton, Floyd Cramer, Ian Hunter, Jerry Lee Lewis, Clancy Brothers ect....There's at least a thousand others, I would like to say a very sincere thank you to everyone on this list.
