Matt comes right in the middle of the renouned Keane family from Caherlistrane and like his siblings has been singing all his life. 'It was a very natural thing,' he tells me. 'We didn't learn music at all, we absorbed it. It's amazing to see seven kids coming out of any family and each one of them being able to play and sing. While Matt might have been singing since he was a child, his first public apperance didn't come until he was 28 when he took to the stage with the Marian Choral Society in Tuam for a performance of the The Student Prince. 'That gave me the kind of confidence to go out in front of any stage.' he says. Opera and musicals became a passion and he performed in more than 25 operas both with the Tuam group and with the Headford Musical Society. One of his most memorable roles was Mr Snow in Carousel when his three young daughers Eimear, Aislish and Orlaith appeared on stage with him as Mr Snow's children. 'Every one of the family sings,' says Matt. 'They are just like me, they think it's a natural thing to sing'.Orlaith features on 'Out in the Fields' with a stirring rendition of the Mary Chapin Carpenter's 'the Moon and St Christopher'. 'She's a serious singer', says Mat, summing up her contribution to the album which could well be followed by calls for more from her. Orlaith wil join Matt at his lauch concert as will his brothers Pat, Noel and Sean. The four brothers, Citizens Keane, released a very successful album and performed a memorable series of concerts a few years ago
