About Me
Like a shimmering blast of crashing cymbals and thunderous feedback, The Shaymes have emerged as the leaders of the freakbeat movement. Combining the energy of The Who and The Creation, the raw aggressions of The MC5 and The Stooges with all the attitude of the mod experience, The Shaymes are a smash on any night, on any stage. The Shaymes began life in a small East London pub. All three members have been in several pivotal groups prior (Social Distortion, The Gain, The Three O’Clock, and The Dwarves to name a few). The three were introduced by Shel Talmy while all were backstage at London’s Marquee Club and quickly bonded over their mutual distaste for the current music scene. Before long, The Shaymes were selling-out all the hippest clubs in Europe, while marching to the forefront of the emerging Mod/Freakbeat revival. Fresh from a brief hiatus, The Shaymes are rejuvenated and have set their sights on conquering the filthy, apathetic, and mundane stateside club scene. As far as the individual members of the band go, Reg left the Mod revival band The Gain at the height of their popularity in the early nineties. Fuming over the commercial direction the band took, Reg, the “puristâ€, decided to forge his own path after a failed attempt to break into the hand puppet industry. Playing in relative obscurity and in front of sparse, but enthusiastic crowds, Reg rekindled the long dormant fire he always had for performing. After a brief stint in the formative days of Social Distortion, Nigel, tired of the limited opportunities in Orange County, went to Europe where he toured as folksinger Rambling Louie Haze. Traveling throughout Europe with a backpack and his guitar, Nigel eventually founded the near legendary Dutch band “The Sorrysâ€. Pounding out authentic sounding mod R&B with The Sorrys, Nigel developed a distinctive freakbeat sound. Although The Sorrys stormed their way through several European tours, Nigel was inevitably deported back to the United States after some “legal†issues and difficulty passing through European customs.
Ace has a long and eclectic musical past. Long story short, this yob has toured with such bands as Blink 182, AFI, The Queers, Reel Big Fish, Anthony Meynell of Squire, The Question, The Hippos, Skeletones, The Voodoo Glow Skulls, No Doubt, Scared of Chaka, The Shins, and more where that came from, what do you want from me?
