We are a Chicago-based, Star Wars-related, "lightsaber choreography club". Created by fans, for fans, for fun! Co-creators are Ron and Bob and we're currently sorting out the details of our organization, but here's some brief bullet points to let you know who we are:
• Adults, ages 18 and up that are interested in using martial arts to choreograph and execute Jedi/Sith-style duels with mock lightsabers
• We are currently two VERY inexperienced enthusiasts that will start by watching a lot of Star Wars lightsaber duels and attempt to replicate them (naturally for fun)
• We're currently working on the location of our practices (once a week) and our cool Jedi and/or Sith names
• Inspired by the organization New York Jedi (www.nyjedi. com)
• Know that this is completely over-the-top geeked-out insanity, but we really need to get out of the house...at least once a week
• Looking for Jedi masters to teach us cool moves
Any lightsaber may be used for combat. Although Force FX sabers are cool and light up extremely well, we don't recommend them for combat because any of the 64 LEDs that run up the blade can break if hit hard enough. And, they are collectible.
An inexpensive alternative (we hate spending money) is the Force FX lightsaber kit available exclusively at Radio Shack (call for availability). They use the same durable blade, but the single LED is located in the hilt so it won't break on contact. I just purchased one for $49.00 (a steal). The light in the blade is not as bright as the standard FX sabers, but it's good enough for fighting. I banged it on hard surfaces many times – not a crack.
A great resource for modifying lightsabers or purchasing inexpensive lightsabers can be found here:

To complement your saber skills and/or fighting style, why not develop your own character and backstory? To fully realize your character, here is a great resource for costuming:
