Leeds Black Film Club

About Me

The Leeds Black Film Club was born in a situation where words became action. A group of Black Men were in a reasoning where they were bemoaning the fact that unlike London, there were no outlets for them to pursue their love of films (particularly Black Film). This took place during the talk show 'So Much Things to Say' on Fresh 95.6FM (UK) Out of this reasoning, it was then decided to take action; and through a series of meetings (and blind chance!!) the Leeds Black Film Club was born.Currently housed at the Seven Arts Centre, Harrogate Road Leeds (UK) LS7 3PD. The Leeds Black Film Club has been established to cater to the needs of a number of interest groups, including those interested in Black issues, or the art of film-making and those interested in independent film or socialising around film-going in general. The Leeds Black Film Club hopes to bring a monthly pick of serious, thought-provoking and entertaining films; and where possible guest speakers to discuss them. The Leeds Black Film Club needs members to keep it going, help manage the club and supervise film nights. We also need regular members to see our films once a month, and to suggest and help us select films and speakers for future film nights.Membership is £5 per year and can be taken out at ANY time to cover a 12 month period. Membership entitles you to discounts on film nights and any other promotions, events and materials. The first two films screened were 'What Black Men Think' by Janks Morton and the legendary UK Black film, 'Babylon' by Franco Rossi.Get involved, and if possible check us out the 2nd Tuesday of every month @ Seven Arts Centre,31a Harrogate Road, Leeds LS7 3PD (UK).
