A memory can't hurt you if you pretend it was just something you saw on TV.

About Me

Some facts about me:
-I get food stuck between my molars very badly. Like, all the time. Stuff you wouldn't think could get stuck in your teeth. I had a little metal toothpick thing I used to carry around with me everywhere. I recently lost it somewhere in England. As soon as I got back to the US I went out and bought two more. Consider that the glamour spell broken.
-I know how I deserve to be treated, and I won’t let people walk all over me.
-I get a lot of stupid race-related questions/comments. I remember one particular conversation I had with a really prissy girl which ended with her saying “wow, you’re lucky you don’t live in a ghetto or something,” to which I responded, “umm...so are you?” The sick-ish thing was that her comment was ‘well-intentioned’. People also often assume I’m adopted when they see my mom. I’m multi-racial, people!
-I cannot stand passive aggressive behavior.
-I approach the sending of postcards as a way of sneaking up on people. And as an opportunity to recycle the more quirky bits of newspapers, magazines, store receipts, lottery tickets, etc. I recommend it.
-I wanted to be a paleontologist when I was a little kid. My dad reminds me every chance he gets.
-My first word was “leche” – the Spanish word for “milk”.
-I’ve got a huuuuuuge extended family.
-I can honestly say that Ewan McGregor and I are not currently on speaking terms. This is likely due to the fact that I’ve never met the guy, and he doesn’t know I exist.
-I once got lock-jaw from yawning too wide. It cost $400 to have my jaw yanked back into place. Before they could do it I had to get injected with loads of drugs to stop me freaking out; because believe me, I was really freaking out. I had my jaw bandaged for a while afterwards. TMJ is no joke, folks.
-My mom’s cat hits me when he’s trying to be scary.
-Growing up, I always had a knack for bringing people out of their shells.
-I believe that good metaphors can unlock some of the world’s greatest mysteries.

I'd like to meet:

CURRENT 'TOP FRIENDS' THEME: People I've cooked with/for.

Music:

I've never been very forthcoming about my musical tastes. I'm definitely not the "anything but country or rap" type, although I'm not really a fan of either of those genres. I'm just rather picky about what I listen to at any given moment. Music tends to have such a profound effect on my mental state at any given time that I can't voluntarily subject myself to just any ol' thing. That said, I do very much appreciate clever lyrics. More on that later, I'm sure.

Movies:

Elling
Small Faces
Ondskan
Tilsammans
It could happen to you
Shaun of the Dead
Cruise of the Gods
The Exorcist
Harold and Maude
Oliver! (I'm pretty sure Jack Wild, aka The Artful Dodger, was my first crush)
Bamboozled
Tuvalu
Beyond the Valley of the Dolls
Heavyweights
Newsies (got me through many lonely nights during those awkward, pubescent years)
The Warriors (James F*ng Remar)

Television:

I know for a fact that there was a period of my childhood, likely between age 5 and 7 that I wanted to BE Davy Jones. This, I believe, followed a period when I wanted to be Alex P. Keaton.

I know. I can't explain it either.

Hair of the dog that kicked me in the nuts.

So, last night, I had a bit to drink and I've spent a large part of this evening sucking down SPARKS and sitting in the bathtub listening to Michael Jackson. I felt fine all day and all of a sudden I ...

I'm feeling rather mellow tonight. I'm not sure what it is. It might be the refreshing iced tea I just drank, or the fact that I'm at the parents' homestead for Thanksgiving playing referee to three c...
