SINAM is a registered non-profit organization, operating in Tiruvannamalai district since 1986. The major objectives of SINAM are to promote the welfare of the Dalits and empower them for their own development. The target community includes - Working children/Child labour/ orphan children - Differently abled children – Under privileged women - Unorganized and marginalized Labour force, widows, destitute. - HIV / AIDS victims. Over the years various programmes are carried out in Thurinjapuram block of Tiruvannamalai district. Some of the major activities carried out are as follows: Provided Non formal education to 625 Dalit children, Evening coaching classes to 450 children’s at 30 centres, helped to 385 aged person to get old age pension, implemented 15 Bore wells for drinking water, helped to receive house sites for 1216 houseless people, conducted many health camps, eye camps, dental camps and herbal health camps, organic cultivation, programmes for small farmers/marginal farmers, dry land cultivation for food security, HIV/AIDS awareness programmes, distribution of free books to poor children every year, women's self help group, skill training for women, capacity development programmes for Dalits, health and sanitation programmes, tsunami relief programmes, saving and income generation programmes for Dalits. SINAM is relatively a small NGO committed for the Dalits and rural poor people’s skill training for youth (wood carving, home appliances, plumbing and Tailoring) etc.
Origin of SINAM
SINAM (Sadayanodai Ilaignar Narpani Mandram) was established on May 16th, 1986 at Thurinjapuram block of Tiruvannamalai District to help the needy and poor people for their development. A group of young people, led by Mr. Rama Perumal the Founder, Director of SINAM formed this NGO. SINAM in Tamil language is anger. We are angry over poverty, exploitation, child labour, child marriage and on all social evils. SINAM is an expression of faith in human efforts to lift the rural poverty and exploitation.
Legal Status:
SINAM is registered under Tamil Nadu Societies of Registration Act 27 of 1975, Registered No.17/86 as a non-profit making non political secular voluntary organization received Income Tax exemption under 12(A) & 80(G). It has received Foreign Contribution Regulation Number 076030121 vide dated May 17th 1994 from the Home Ministry of Government of India to receive external grant for the fulfillment of the SINAM objectives.
We are happy to share that the Secretary Mr. Perumal received a Honorary degree of Doctorate of Philosophy in Social Service (Ph.D., in Social Service) on 2nd May by Diandra University, Varese, at Italy and the same was conferred at Chennai on 24th May 2008. The Former Vice Chancellor of Tanjore, Tamil University, and a Honuorable Judge from Madras High Court gave this degree at a function.
