IN THE BEGINNING.....
Back around December 1999, Damien came up with the idea of Alan Can't and mentioned his idea to Cathal and Stass in Slatterys. His initial idea was to mix Slipknot and Anal C**t with Sesame Street lyrics. In January 2000, the three members of Alan Can't made the first recordings in Damien's house in about a week. The idea of doing gigs in the near future lead to the induction of James into the band. After a couple of practices, they had their first gig in July 2000 in Longford.
After that gig, the band established themselves as a hard working band...mainly because the band only do around 2 or 3 gigs a year (mainly due to laziness, but the band also have college, jobs or other musical commitments) but they always jump at the chance to do a gig.
The music has not strayed much from the original concept (they pretty much had the same setlist every gig), but to describe it would be quite difficult. Originally going with the 'Happy Metal' tag, the music ranges from: rock, metal, alternative, acoustic, funk etc., the band never take themselves seriously, from the songs right through to their live show, which really has to be seen to understand what Alan Can't are all about.
