My designs concern costumes, masks, putting on stage, set details and they are mainly a records of my ideas of the stage space. .First of all however they determinethe base of the dialogue befor execution of the project. The transformation of the space created on paper into a stage reality is accompanied by numerous talkings with director and choreographer. Animation takes place in such a moments. Drawings get their second life. Reading written-drawn designs reminds deciphering lines gathered into codes of signs. It is like identification of the fingerprints printed by screenplay, drama or libretto. Lines which talk, lines which mean, lines which provoke the unique version of events dominate the project.
The process of telling a story about what is going to happen on the stage shows the way of thinking,of anticipation of the dynamics of events. Drawing for the theatre means desire to â€offer himself†by the author, to recognize the text read. It means desire to dress the verbal nudity, desire to perceive the stage space from the linguistic space. The moment of the transformation of the sketches-designs into real costumes, make-ups, decorations is really a magic one.
Out of the lines put on paper the creative work in space grows. The magic life arises. The painting rests on canvas. Sketch remains a sketch. Drawings of the stage designer experience another kind of life. Materialization is a phenomenon of this kind of creation. They live, they enchant spectators or they don’t,but the source of them is always in the lines of the stage designer.
Sketches just like sentences uttered are the first registration of thoughts and conceptions. Drawing and text alike carried by imagination have both ontheir shoulders recorded history. By theatre of lines you create theatre of shades, theatre of forms and the living set. The curiosity of shades changes into contrasts of textures, shinings and tangles of dull matters.
The unique situation on the point of contact of the language of drawing and the language of stage, dialogue between line and word, unseparable inspirations of both , always implicate the multitude of situations.
The stage life of the project however lasts very short time. The prrformances finish their lives after one season .Designs still exist in their primal shape. They come back to play their part-to be nothing more then a drawing.
