About Me

The Space Age Museum celebrates the vision of spaceflight in American culture.
Our collections have been assembled over 20 years by John, Veronica and Peter Kleeman. We look for the spirit of the Space Age in familiar objects such as toys, amusements, fashion, advertising, decorative arts, architecture — things that reveal how deeply the spacefaring vision infused our culture.
We want to show those who never knew, and remind those who have forgotten, that Americans once dreamed of a future in space. We didn't just wave flags and pay taxes. Through imagination we went there. As children we donned space helmets and held rayguns against the alien forces of backyard galaxies. As teenagers we were transported from drive-in movie theaters to forbidden planets. As adults we drove rocket-finned Chevys and lounged beneath satellite chandeliers. And while it is easy to trivialize decorative fins and flying saucer design as excesses of a "populuxe" world, something beneath the plastic surface whispers of heroic purpose and bold steps in the moon dust.
We tell an untold part of an amazing story. We explore the cultural history of the Space Age through its objects and images. At the dawn of the Space Age, fantasy met reality head on. Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon paved the way for Apollo's epic journey. In the Space Age Museum a cereal box toy, an amusement park ride, a kitchen chandelier, join the record of our evolutionary passage to the stars.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

- We'd like to meet anyone who is open to exploring the history of the Space Age as a cultural phenomenon.

- We are also looking to connect with other museums who are interested in working with us to create exhibits from our traveling collections.
