After many years as the drummer, Matt decided to step out from behind the kit and started playing acoustic guitar and singing in the very late 90's. With the help of good friend Brian Shoemaker, and the recording talents of Whitneyville Recording in Whitneyville PA, Matt recorded the 7 song EP "A Box Full Of Blues" Matt wrote every song and not only sang and played guitar... but played drums, bass guitar, percussion and slide guitar. The recording was rounded out by two great musicians in Brian Shoemaker on lead guitar and background vocals and local bluegrass legend Bob Rubin on mandolin. The recording was done in 3 days in 3, 5 hour sessions... not too bad for a first attempt. "A Box Full Of Blues is out of print... but feel free to download the songs on the music player here.
At the time Noldy and Shoemaker were playing as an acoustic duo until Shoemaker found the warm shores of North Carolina's Outer Banks call him down south. And the solo career of Matt Noldy was born.
Matt spent the early parts of the 21st century playing acoustic shows and going to graduate school. When his time with school was done Matt bounced between a couple of short lived jobs and decided to give playing music a full time shot. And for the past 3 years he has done that.
Matt has played in just about every bar and restaurant in the area at one time or another. Building a craft and a song list like no one else on the scene. Matt loves to take requests from a song list that numbers around 1200 songs- specializing in the classic rock of bands like The Beatles, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Grateful Dead, Eric Clapton, CS&N, Van Morrison etc. Yet Matt also has a nice mix of some classic country and 90's classic from the likes of The Black Crowes, Phish U2, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains and modern singer/songwriters like Ryan Adams
In 2005 he helped form Electric Pawnshop with his wife Judith and some very good friends. It was at this time that local guitar legend Mike Brown entered the picture. It didn't take long for Matt, Jude and Mike to realize their common love for acoustic music with big harmonies and by the end of 2006 Electric Pawnshop shows had all but given away to what has become ACOUSTIC PAWNSHOP.
