Hi! Thank you for stopping by. I am a former active duty Marine and currently a Captain in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. On March 30, 2008, I started biking and running towards a goal of 10,000 miles to raise money for Hope for the Warriors ( http://www.hopeforthewarriors.org ). “The mission of Hope for the Warriorsâ„¢ is to enhance quality of life for US Service Members and their families nationwide who have been adversely affected by injuries or death in the line of duty.â€
People have asked why supporting the wounded Marines is as important to me as it is. I fought in Iraq with First Battalion Eighth Marine Regiment (1/8) in Fallujah in November 2004 (Operation Phantom Fury). During this deployment and the Battle of Fallujah, twenty-one of my fellow Marines of 1/8 were killed and over 200 were wounded.
My personal experience acts as a call-to-action to gather support for all the Marines, and their families, who have been wounded while defending our freedom.
Hope for the Warriors is a civilian organization with 501(c)(3) non-profit status (Federal Tax ID#20-5182295) which means that your generous donation is tax deductible. Any amount that you donate is appreciated. One hundred percent of the money you donate goes to Hope for the Warriors.
Will you help make a difference in the lives of Marines and their families with a tax-deductible donation to Hope for the Warriors?
There are two simple options for making your donation.
1. Donate electronically using your credit card or debit card at the following secure weblink: http://www.active.com/donate/TeamH4W2008/MNodine .
2. Send your check to:

Please be sure to write “Matt Nodine†in the ‘for’ line on your check so your donation will be added to the goal.
I chose 10,000 miles as that is roughly the equivalent of the distance from the home base of 1/8, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, across the southern part of the United States to Camp Pendleton, California, to Lake Ozette, Washington, across the northern part of the United States to Cranberry Isles, Maine (via Chicago and Cleveland), to Key West with a final ending back at Camp Lejeune.
If you have questions or would like to contact me, email [email protected].
Thank you for giving back to your Marines.
Best wishes and Semper Fidelis,
Matt Nodine
p.s. In response to questions, yes, I am literally biking and running 10,000 miles. I have a full time job here in DC and I track all the miles (to the tenth of a mile) I run and bike every day and add those to the total listed on the LED scroller. You can find me running and biking in Fairfax, Centreville, Hains Point (in DC) and the Mall areas. On a good weather weekend, you can also find me on the W&OD Trail in DC. I have plans for several 100+ mile rides coming in the Fall.
