Having previously released their self-funded EP Close To Home by themselves, Kill The Messenger takes it a step above anything the band has done before for what I would call without a doubt one of the best albums of the year, and what I hope will be the first of many albums to come for the band for years to come.
The album starts off with an instant hook in Machines which sets the standard for the album. A single guitar playing, at a low volume so you have to turn your CD player up higher to hear it, so when the band then comes in at full volume your speakers are blaring. This song is one of many on this album that you just cant seem to not sing along to!
Standout tracks on the album would have to include Nocturnal with its Scream-Your-Lungs out chorus, the gritty anthemic Game Over and the stadium sized Boy Who Saved The World that opens with acoustic guitars and backing vocals provided by Anna Devine of local Dublin band Little Nightmare and finishes with the full band and strings section playing above them in a huge crescendo climax.
Home Star Runner's Kill The Messenger is an impressive first album which leaves you wanting more and if you havent already Buy this album now!
Sounds Like:
Their sound is that of the early Noughties and mirrors the Pop Punk melodies of yesteryear. The breaks and stops are upbeat and rough, the structures are edgy and refreshing, and whether it be the slow rhythmic downbeats or the jumping highs, this bands first album is far stronger than any debut is ever expected to be.
