Hoo Iz He?" Well, first of all, he's not a musician or a dj. Usually, great producers are either one or the other, or even at best, both. Did you think that it was impossible for someone to produce music and not be a musician or a dj? Well, you better think again. "Hoo Iz He?" His name is ?Hoo'KraZe? (pronounced-Who Craze) and you better get it right! ?Hoo'Kraze? has been on the DC Hip-Hop scene since the mid 1990's. The producer/m.c. has made a name for himself over the years, starting out as a solo artist and later, forming one of the DC's area's premier rap groups, Tha (Unified Army of) UnderAchievaz.
Hoo'KraZe is no beginner when it comes to music production. He was taught early on by his good friend, Krayola. "Krayola took me to the studio to record my first song. We recorded that joint over at Boo-Boo's, Asiatic Studios. Back then, I didn't know too many folks that did music and I needed beats. So, Krayola would invite me to his sessions, where I started to learn about the studio ins and outs. When he showed me how to make tracks on the infamous EPS 16-Plus, it was a rap."
In 1999, Krayola and Hoo'KraZe formed "The Paragon", a company that catered to the production needs of local talent. "The Paragon didn't just produce hip-hop, we also did R&B, Neo-Soul, Reggae, and even Drum & Bass. Krayola's a real musician, so he was never trapped in a box when it came to creating music. He was always down to try something everyone was scared to touch on, so that definitely kept my ears open and I know that his influence has made me a more well-rounded producer. I gotta say producer and to let y'all know that production and beat-making are different. I don't just give an artist a track and send them on their way. I'm there on the whole creating process. I want to make sure that when we are totally done with the song, that is something that is undeniably tight."
All in all, 'KraZe has produced hundreds tracks including 4 entire albums, only one of which has been commercially released. Now with his own production company, Thatz Krazy! Productionz, Hoo'KraZe is set out to continue doing his part in setting a "solid foundation" for DC hip-hop. He is currently working with his group, Tha Unified Army, with a CD, Under Surveillance, slated to drop 2006. The Under Surveillance Mix CD is currently in the streets and is quickly gaining momentum, blessing listeners with 27 tracks, 14 of which he has produced.. He is also working with other local talent such as Montana Staks, Porche 9-11, Edly Shine, DJ Kool, Conglomerate Records, L-Green and many others. So be on the lookout, his name is ?Hoo?KraZe?.
