HARRY MANX, A.J. CROCE, JOEL PLASKETT TO HEADLINE 2009 DEEP ROOTS MUSIC FESTIVALWith the addition of a Thursday evening special performance by Joel Plaskett and Emergency, Wolfville’s Deep Roots Music Festival will run a little longer, from September 24 to 27, 2009.Again this year, the Festival brings to Nova-Scotia some of North-America’s best Singer-Songwriters, Blues Artists and “World-Roots†musicians, performing in a variety of venues throughout Wolfville.For its sixth edition, Deep Roots will present over 25 acts including Raga-Blues Master, HARRY MANX, American songwriter and piano wiz A.J. CROCE, this year’s Juno Award winners for best World Music recording, JAYME STONE and MANSA SISSOKO, as well as another 2008 Juno winner, OLD MAN LUEDECKE, who won in the “Best Solo Roots / Traditional†category. Deep Roots also brings back three of last year’s favorite Artists: New-York’s ARI HEST, San-Diego’s STEVE POLTZ and Canadian chanteuse, COCO LOVE ALCORN. Furthermore, the Festival will shine a light on Nova-Scotia’s own JOEL PLASKETT.With the recent release of his career-defining triple-CD, “Threeâ€, in which the number 3 and its multiples constitute a meaningful thread, it is no accident that Deep Roots will feature a tri-dimensional Plaskett, with three distinct performances.With eight critically-acclaimed recordings, A. J. CROCE, son of legendary singer-songwriter Jim Croce, has proven that he owes his notoriety to nobody. Croce comes to perform in Nova-Scotia for the first time, thanks to his frequent collaborator, Steve Poltz. A favorite Artist at last year’s Festival, Poltz returns to Deep Roots with his good friend A.J. coming along for the ride !For fans of the Blues, Deep Roots presents an all-star Blues line-up anchored by HARRY MANX. Also featured are Manx’s frequent collaborator STEVE MARRINER and his band MONKEY JUNK, and 2008 Juno nominee, the GARRETT MASON TRIO.Stretching our musical boundaries, multiple Juno winner, banjoist JAYME STONE and Malian Griot and kora maestro MANSA SISSOKO bring their quartet for a live journey “From Africa to Appalachiaâ€.
