Michael King has proved his smooth vocal delivery is as BIG as the big man himself. King’s 2003 CMAA Golden Guitar Nomination for “Best New Talent” insured a spotlight on this exceptional Artist with the potential of treading the world stage.Michael King made his debut to Australian Country Music in 1992 as a “Grand Finalist” in the prestigious STARMAKER quest in Tamworth and went on to WIN Channel Ten’s “New Faces” with Bert Newton in 1993. Michael spent the next few years honing his performance and songwriting skills, attending the CMAA College of Country Music 2001 Proved to be a HUGE Year for “The King”! (July) With a “swag” of nominations and awards, Michael once again stepped in front of the camera as a contender, then “Viewer’s Choice” Winner on Channel Nine’s “STARSTRUCK” capturing the hearts of viewers and judges alike. This performance led to the privilege to sing the National Anthem at the NRL State of Origin in Brisbane. (August) Michael King was bestowed the much sought after honour of performing the Athlete’s Song, “Where Hero’s Stand” at the Opening Ceremony of the International Goodwill Games at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. (September) saw him win the prestigious Galston Golden Saddle Award where he got to record and release his first hit “Twenty 4 Seven” which reached number 22 on the National CM Charts.King’s debut album “Radio Ranch” was released to rave reviews in December and its second single “Bim Bam Boom” rocketed up the charts and peaked at 3. The third single (and album’s title track) “Radio Ranch” was released and gave Michael his second consecutive top 10 hit reaching the 7 spot on the CM Charts. 2003 has seen no slowing down with his achievements. In July he became the first Australian country artist to receive an Artist Relations deal with music giant Yamaha. The Tasmania and New Zealand TSA Songwriting competition awarded Michael “Best Recorded Song” with “From Where I Stand”. In November he won “Best Country Artist” and was a Top Five Finalist for the APRA Songwriters award with his latest single “Some Men (Just let go)” at the National 2003 Musicoz Awards held in Wollongong NSW, an award that recognises unsigned talent Australia wide. “Some Men (just let go)” peaked the Top 30 CM Charts at number 4.In Tamworth 2004 Michael won the TSA Award for Contemporary Country Song of the Year with “Some men,(just let go)” and was a Top 10 Finalist in the National Australian Songwriting Awards for 2004. He also won “Best Country Album” at the 2004 QLD Recording Association Sunny Awards for “Radio Ranch”.Michael has spent the past 5 years working various pubs/clubs and venues Australia wide, Some of the artists Michael has worked alongside include, The Corrs (UK), Vanessa Amorosi, Human Nature, Keith Urban, Lee Kernaghan, Jackie Love, John Paul Young, Peter Cousins, Mark Williams, Debolah Morgan (USA) to name just a few. He has also successfully auditioned for musical shows such as “Rent” and “The Lion King”In 2007 Michael fulfilled a childhood dream of performing in Nashville Tennessee as part of a Songwriters Showcase on music Row. This will ensure no slowing down for the multi award winning Michael King as he climbs the ladder to his success.
