Derek Bondy, as one the young lions to come out of Mt. Hood Community College continued his education at The University of Oregon, from which he will graduate this spring with a Bachelors of Music in Trombone Performance.
While at Mt. Hood he was accepted as 1st trombone to the Int’l Association for Jazz Education’s Community College All-Star Band.
This last summer Derek was one of six college participants chosen to study at the Brevard Summer Music Festival and Institute in Brevard, North Carolina.
Mr. Bondy is an active performer of all genres, from playing lead trombone in big bands, playing in small group jazz ensembles, orchestra section work, to funk and afro-beat bands, or classical chamber music. Derek is a member of the Detrick/Swigart Jazz Orchestra, and the portland based band Jujuba.
Derek also maintains a private studio of which some of his students have gone on to win the state solo competition, participate in the all-northwest orchestra, all-state honor band, and all-state middle school honor band.
